The legislation, by state Rep. Gregory Holloway (D-Hazlehurst), would mandate a section be added to each child’s report card on which the parents are graded on their responsiveness to communication with teachers, the students’ completion of homework and readiness for tests, and the frequency of absences and tardiness.

So more pointless busywork for teachers that does nothing to actually educate children? Excellent idea. And I'm sure the parents are really going to appreciate the feedback and take it to heart. This is the bill that will bring Mississippi from 50 to 49. Be afraid, Louisiana.

They can just make the grade up. That's what most teachers do anyway.

Just another way for teachers to whine about something

The teachers should get a report card from organization of parents.

In theory this might be a good idea. But the execution will be horrible at best.
And what happens is the parents get a bad grade? Detention?

I'm not sure that a failing parent makes any changes or if this is a complete waste of time.
I will say that it appears that parenting is part of, if not a major part of, the education problem. At least Mississippi is trying something to fix the problem.

I can't wait for big momma to come storming into a classroom because she is a shitty parent.

She won't show. If they could tie welfare payments to their assigned grades, maybe.

Good lord. I can't imagine the shite storm teachers will have to deal with if you have a parent an F in parenting. Such a stupid idea.

I thought the students were the ones supposed to be getting graded based on the "completion of homework and readiness for tests"?

I don't understand what this accomplishes, other than having a legislator feel good about himself and tell his base that he really supports family values.
