I'm very sad for children who have "parents" like this.
I'm sad that many think this is ok.
This is not ok.
This is a small child who has been pushed in this direction.
Damn.

Six year olds have difficulty choosing dinner, much less a gender and a sexual identity.
Well gender isn’t a thing and dinner is.

The article said kids know by 3-4. That’s so fricking young. They don’t know what anything means.
I was around 6/7 when I knew something was off. I really knew around 10 years old, and finally knew what it was called when I was 13 (in 1988). Having said that, I REALLY disagree with letting children transition early, medically speaking. I have no issues with them socially transitioning, i.e. dress and appearance.

About the most stupid thing I’ve ever encountered.

How'd the camping trip along the coast go?

I remember you popping into one of the other threads that came up about this subject. You actually seem sensible and made some good points. Still dont think a 6 year old should even know what trans-anything is, but you at least give it an sane voice.

Thanks SupaDave, I don’t try to persuade, but try and maybe educate a little bit; my views don’t always march in lockstep with the T-community. I don’t agree with a lot of what is said online or perpetuated by a bunch of very vocal people. In my opinion, the transgender community has become fractured.

They better start saving for counseling sessions by 15. They will need a lot of money. Stupid adults.

This is an honest question... In this process of transitioning... did she actually get a new name, SSN and birth certificate? If so, what happens to the “original” child and their legal documents. Wouldn’t a death certificate have to be issued?

The answer varies wildly with each state. I’ll use Louisiana as an example since I live in Washington State, was born in BR at Women’s. For me, a SSN change also requires an amended birth certificate. In Louisiana, for Birth certificate to be changed, I have to provide proof to the court that I have had the surgery from multiple sources. A judge will then provide the hospital with the verdict, so that Women’s Hospital can issue a new birth certificate. At that point, I can now submit the Birth certificate to the Social Security Office to have my information changed. A lot of states don’t require actual surgery to change the bc (Washington state being one), but Louisiana does.
A drivers license can be fairly easy in my state and doesn’t require a boatload of documentation.
A legal name change still goes through the same legal process that anyone else would have to go through if they are changing their name.
A passport requires all the jumping of the hoops above.
No, a death certificate is not necessary.

fricking disgusting. Parents should go to camps. Kid raised in better home, which even a gutter would be.

Thanks for the excellent explanation. When the mother eluded to the mourning of the “loss” of her son that got me thinking which is why I asked. So Louisiana has a surgery requirement... that’s... well, surprised/not surprised. Seems like time well spent in the legislature. Haha. Just seems awfully young to say “hey..nope-actually a girl”. And I say that from a point that- can the child articulate these ideas and self-image and identification to others? Maybe.. IDK... I guess I’m trying to reconcile this “binary” decision with what people say and have written about gender fluidity. I guess I’m wondering how much say-so did this child have. Ohhh and I also was born at Women’s.

I’m not talking about the rare cases of birth defects concerning genitalia. I’m talking about little John all grown up thinking he can just magically switch over and become Jill.

What concerns me isn’t that some kids fee this way, I know Most trans people who say they have always Felt this way.
It’s that kids this young really don’t know enough about anything to really understand whether they’re trans or just you know a little boy who’s into girly things. For a six year old what’s the difference?
