Probably none, just like there would probably be no harm in not waiting.

So is that why you guys bark at opposing fans?

the amount of barking and badassery you show is directly proportionate to what age you were when you were first allowed to watch Alien. It's science.

My daughter is 7 and has loved Jurassic Park since she first saw it a couple years ago She also loves Top Gun. I'm positive I'm a parenting failure though

Eventually they’re going to get exposed to it through friends, the internet, etc.

I figure if they’re ok to handle it, it’s also a good opportunity to use it as a teaching moment as well.

I begged by Dad to take me to this when I was 6. He finally did and I watched 1/2 the movie through the cracks of my fingers. He still makes fun of me for it 31 years later

To answer the OP, it would all depend on how mature the child is, do they scare easily, etc. General rule of thumb for me would be between 6-10 with Ghostbusters being closer to 6 and the more violent movies, like Alien, being closer to 10. Outside of the LOR, I think I watched all of them by the time I was 6 though.

On the flip side, what kind of emotionally detached person can watch something like a Clockwork orange and not be effected by it?

And FWIW, Stanley Kubrick is my favorite director of all time...

Mostly folks who understand it wasn't a documentary....but I take your point. I suspect it effected my adult parents in some way, but as a 7 year old other than the fighting it was boring as hell. I have watched it as an adult though and it didn't effect in anyway that I was aware of...

I think, but I ain't positive, the second movie was CC and Company about Joe Namath being a biker. It probably wasn't kid friendly either but all I remember about it was him going through a grocery store and making a sandwich....
