Not doing formal Paleo. Doing a physician directed low carb diet called Dukan, LINK which is an established Euro low carb regimen. It has a meat-only initial phase.

I had to do something because I had weight gain since last June due to health condition and at my age and with as slow as my metabolism is I had to do something to shock the system. This is what the doctor recommended. I have lost 11 lbs in 10 days. And tomorrow will start on next phase with veggies and yogurt and expect to lose 2 lbs a week for the next ten weeks and then I'm at my target weight.

Different ways to skin a cat peeps.

That's great, listen to your physician and keep it up.

You are probably eating only 800 calories. Bye bye muscle mass.

No idea about the berry.

Good luck on your weight loss though, and in the meantime, check out the website nutritionfacts.org. It's run by an MD who scours the research on clinical nutrition then puts out a 6 min video on the topic. In essence, the research behind plant-based diets being so good for us is very strong, and most all animal products are bad.

The website and newsletter are free. And he's not trying to sell you anything.

The info I've learned has made me hypervigilant about consuming more fresh veggies on a daily basis and not going crazy with meat consumption, like I did 5 yrs ago on a low carb high protein diet.

How do you plan on getting the necessary fat in your diet to support brain function, skin health, intestinal efficiency, etc? You need animal protein and alot of fat in your diet. I sure hope youre not advocating he fat/cholesterol myth that this country is still hung up on. The OP even mentioned not eating much red meat or butter because "of his age", when i reality he should continue with the low carb diet he's on and actually add alot more butter/eggs/bacon/high fat meat to it. There is tons of evidence that supports this. You think its logical to eat more vegetation than it is animal product? A balance of both with plenty of fat is the what everyone should be striving for and we'd have alot less obese people walking around if there werent so many ignorant people that have either no self control, or blindly trust the obviously vested and biased FDA and the ridiculous food pyramid.

Like you, I'm advocating balance and moderation. I simply want to raise awareness about people's actual consumption of fresh veggies, and promote more of that, as opposed to canned veggies, and opposed to high starch consumption.

I eat my fair share meat, but moreso baked, grilled or pan seared fish.

Damn 11 days is legit. You're almost there, now man. All that fat incineration should start to get super apparent.

FULL on no carb diet CAN be a little dangerous depending on age/health/weight. But I'm no dietitian in case your inquiry was legitimate.

I have nothing against well timed carbs (preferably following / day of resistance strength training)

Quality fats and protein are my foundation
Carbs are my purposeful insulin spiking bitch

I am all about metabolic flexibility

My beef is with the anti-fat, anti-cholesterol crowd who are toiling under antiquated recommendations with the foolish idea that they are doing something healthy...
