I live in a good public school district. My 9th grader is in Catholic school and my 5th grader is in public. Both were/ are in gifted. I think that the public school is much more capable in handling GT students up until high school. Once they get to 8th grade it's time to get them out of gifted and into honors and AP classes. This approach has seemed to work well for us so far.

A great public school is 10x better than most private schools. So much more opportunity. Which do you think would have the best teachers? A school paying 60k or more plus excellent benefits, retirement and pension, or one paying about 30k with few benefits?

What if the public schools are great and the private schools are mediocre?

Spoken like someone pushing the teachers union..I'll take a teacher who takes pride in her job, enjoys it and doesn't do it strictly for the money..usually more of these in the private schools but each area is certainly different

Just sayin.

It used to be that way here until the govt came in and said we needed to be desegregated.

Plano West is one of the best public high schools in the state of TX.
Hockaday or St. Mark's are both privates and still a better education.
Some privates are worth the money, others most definitely are not.

I think it's a faulty assumption that a private education is always better than a public.

What percentage of the time would you say private education is better than public?

This a pretty legit troll.

If you are serious, then you obviously went to private school and are missing the parts of your brain that are developed by life.

If you are really serious then you need to know that there are certain public schools, in every area, particularly Baton Rouge, that if you get your kid in, you have hit the lottery, literally. And no private schools will match the outcome from those schools, in aggregate.

I don't know why I even posted into this troll post. lol

We have a big house, wife drives a fancy car, we make double figures and send our kids to public school. Private schools dont have the resources and money to do all the AP and honors courses that a good publuc school can. We also send our kids to the number one rated school system in the state.

I went to private school for 13 years and it doesn't hold a candle to the education my kids are getting. I was so ill prepared for college and I was in all honor classes in school.

Aren't all of the active desegregation cases closed? I know for a fact that there are some very good public school systems that rival most anything non-ESA institutions (and some other private schools).

It really does depend on the location. A lot of posters on this site are from BR and NOLA which shapes their opinion. Obviously BR and NOLA private schools, especially the Catholic schools, are far better than the area publics.

Yeah after they screwed up all the zoning

My kids would actually go to a decent elementary school right by my house then have to go across town for middle. It's retarded
Eta: and there are decent public schools here but nothing that compares to the top privates

Some people enjoy their shitband don't want to part with stuff...

Someone my wife knows called and asked us to pick her kid up from school watch her after school for free...

They both have jobs. A big arse house. Big arse toys. Mardi gras crews. The works. She just does not want tonpay for aftercare.

My wife stays at home with our three little kids. It's a sacrifice to have a stay at home mom and she wants to pawn hers off because she doesn't want to do without her shite.

Some people have different goals.

It sounds like you just want to say you send your kids to private school and not because it's a better education. How is that any different from buying the nice house and luxury cars?

I don't have kids. The whole point of sending a kid to a good prep school is for the education. So I think you're missing the point.

Maybe LA just has bad private schools and great public schools. Maybe they're different than everywhere else in the country. Fair enough.

If you can't afford to send your kid to a top-tier private school, there is nothing wrong with moving your family to an area with a "good" public school (by public education standards). Your kid may get a 3rd world education, but at least you'll be able to afford the payment on your new Tahoe.

If you like in an area with top rated public schools and your home schools are A rated, you are better off sending your kids to that public school than any private school in the area. The Prairieville Primary, Oak Grove Primary, Prairieville Middle and DT High comes to mind. All are very high A rated schools. Same applies to many areas in LP and St. Tamany

Not all private schools are religious.
