Couple buying tomatoes. She puts them on scale to weigh them.
He says, "They are .99 a pound, and you have one and a half pounds. That'll be about...two dollars."

well, itll be roughly 1.65 after tax. thats closer to $2 than $1. so he aint wrong.

$1.49, plus tax of about 6 to 10 cents. I think you may be finding flaw in an ole boy rounding up.

.99 x 1.5 = 1.485

plus

EBR sales tax rate 10% x 1.485 = .1485

$1.64 = about two dollars

Except food is taxed at a lower rate (around 4%)

When I'm shopping and on a budget, I always round up to next dollar.

It's the smart thing to do.

in louisiana, unprepared food is exempt from state tax, but not city and parish taxes.
