There is simply no loyalty between employee and employer. I doubt many of these employees would be looking elsewhere if they had a more competitive salary and a pension.
100%
It's why I laugh when older folks talk shite about how "workers today aren't loyal!".
Well of course we aren't. Unless you land some huge promotion (which usually takes years of political games or knowing the right people), then you're getting 3%-4% cost of living raises (which aren't even really raises considering your buying power has stayed the same, or gotten worse due to inflation).
As you said in another post, the best way to get paid your market worth, is to leave.

You guys are moving the goalposts and talking about active versus passive availability.
I'm just trying to find your limit. Is it theft/fraud/whatever if you watch youtube on your other screen for the 20 hours a week you didn't need to fully meet your employer's production expectations?
I wonder if anyone else appreciates that we are having this discussion at 1 PM on a work day?

Holy shite man. Thats exactly what happened to this guy posting on reddit.
He lost all of his jobs because he was lying to them.

Motherfrickers in here arguing that you must give a full 40 hours of work per week to your employer or else it’s *insert made up legal claim* while posting on the OT in the middle of a work day.
fricking hypocritical corporate bootlickers are so pathetic.

Wage theft is wage theft. I'm not agreeing with my position, I'm just saying that employers have the law on their side in most cases. It's pretty clear cut wage theft.

I'm off today, actually sick in bed.

If you are using that work computer to complete work for another company, yes.

That is absolutely what you are saying, but you’re too god damn stupid to see that your argument immediately falls apart if someone takes a piss break or is twiddling their thumbs for 2 minutes while waiting for an email response.
“Oh no Mr. Shekelberg, I don’t want to commit WAGE FRAUD for tying my shoe! Please give me some more work to do!”
Piss off.

I have never said this.

Holy strawman, Batman!
Bathroom breaks and waiting a few minutes for an email are normal, incidental pauses in a workday, every employer accounts for that. What we’re talking about is intentionally working a fraction of your paid hours every week and hiding it. That’s not “tying your shoe,” it’s collecting a full paycheck for part-time effort. One is normal workflow; the other is misrepresentation for financial gain.

Being “available” means actively monitoring and responding to work needs during paid hours, not just being at home with a laptop nearby
Do you think that it's impossible to do this for 2 different companies at the same time?

I get the vibe that a small minority of people on this site really hate the fact that people have the ability to work from home
They shite on "teh poors" and admire billionaire fricks like Elon, Trump, etc
yet they say not enough is being done for "the common middle class man"
I can't keep up on here who we are supposed to hate at any given moment

I know someone working 2 IT positions currently. They made over 500k last year and are a top performer at both jobs with 20+ years of experience. I have no problem with it. Companies will lay you off in a heartbeat. Gotta protect yourself and your family.

I'm not shitting on people, I wish we could do this.
I'm just stating that you lying to your employers will most likely lose you the job from all of them.

What law? You said that it's wage theft to work for 2 hours and then "do something else" without I guess telling your employer that you don't have anything to do.
What law is on the employer's side regarding fraud/theft if you work two hours a day, don't say anything about being short on work, and then watch movies the rest of the day while being available whenever someone calls or emails?

Just shows that your average WFH person probably wastes 75% of day on non work stuff
I've worked from home for a very long time now (13 years), and I've also had jobs where I had to work from an office. I spent roughly the same numbers of hours working from an office as I do from home, I just felt like I had to actively fake like I was working when I was in an office
