I eat cheese and ketchup sandwiches all the time. Two slices of cold cheese, ketchup on both sides, white, untoasted bread. It is freaking delicious.

When I was in school lunch was a $1.25 and was enough food to last the day. What do these people that qualify for these free or reduced lunches eat when they're not in school? I am assuming they use food stamps. Well is the amount you received on your EBT card reduced during the school months or do these families consistently get the same amount of $$ on the EBT card regardless of if their children are in school or not?

It's not starving kids. According to the article some of the parents make over $100,000 a year and still aren't paying their bills and have put the school $50,000 in debt and at risk of losing federal funding so don't try to play that sympathy card here

I can't wait until they go to McDonald's and say they don't have money but they want a Big Mac meal. Let me know how that works out.

A cheese sammich that's not grilled and accompanied by soup of your choice sucks.

School lunches were never an issue, in the history of mankind, until Michelle Obama came around. She couldn't be more of a failure if she tried.

"Two slices of bread and two slices of cheese. Absolutely mortifying," she said in her Facebook picture of the sandwich, posted on Feb. 5 and since shared at least 800 times. "My heart goes out to the kids that I go to school with that get their only meal a day at school."

My mom has been catering for over 20 years and was asked by a local catholic church to cater their school lunches and her, being a devout catholic, decided to do this and break even (she never made a profit off the school lunches) and was relieved of duty after parents (in The Woodlands, TX) found out that she would give peanut butter & jelly sandwiches to kids who "forgot" their lunch at home instead of giving them a full catered meal.

It blew my mind...you can afford for your kid to go to a private catholic school but get upset when they eat PB&J because you forgot to pack their lunch or send them with money.

Yeah, they're getting singled out as deadbeats and what they'll get is derision from their classmates.

School is not a social program or a charity.

You have not been paying attention over the last decade or so. Public school is absolutely a social program and charity these days. They give free and reduced lunches, free daycare after school, and provide free meals even during the summer.

It's bullshite but it's true. You just don't notice it much if you aren't one of the ones on the free ride.

Um no. That's bullying and will get you expelled. Being poor and trashy is heroic these days.

Better than being hungry whilst said derision takes place.
