Even if she was going to eat the giraffe, we don’t breed them in abundance. There’s already a very small population of them. So why kill them if you don’t have to?

Hunters provide an economic incentive to conserve and grow the population.

Believe it or not, not every culture values animals as much as we do and some require incentives to help save them.

This shouldn't be hard to understand.

What the psychotics in Hollywood won't tell everyone is hunters play a role in not only conserving wildlife in these areas, they also help fight off starvation in many of the local villages. The villagers are more than a little glad to have the meat- which is donated to them by the hunters.

If foreign hunters suddenly disappear, many of the animals in those areas will, as well. They'll be killed for food. Some of these villages depend on the boosts hunters bring to their local economy. If that goes away, the animals will become a source of meat.

The giraffe was killing other, younger and re-productive males. The giraffe she killed could no longer reproduce and was killing ones that could.

she said in a Facebook post, apparently now deleted. "Spotted this rare black giraffe bull and stalked him for quite awhile. I knew it was the one. He was over 18 years old, 4000 lbs and was blessed to be able to get 2000 lbs of meat from him."

Another poster that does not read the articles.

And now we have a TH03 and Lnchbox thunderdome thread.

Got tied up at work, came back to my last post, scrolled down to see LNCHBOX and TH03 had thrown in a few comments, and wasn't surprised at all the thread had ballooned to 23 pages from page 11.

Well considering the countries these animals are located in, I doubt very much of money actually goes back to conservation and protection measures. And the fact that the vast majority of these animals, like the giraffes, have still seen significant decreases (giraffe populations have been almost cut in half the last 2 decades) in their total populations despite these supposed conservation methods.

Talley also claimed to Fox that the giraffe she killed was too old to breed, and had killed three younger bulls who were able to breed.

"This is called conservation through game management," said Talley.

This giraffe needed to be put down, so Talley paid thousands of dollars for the privilege to pull the trigger.

Is there really any doubt these people are egomaniacs?

Most of these are taken off private ranches. The private ranches want to attract more hunters, so it is in their best interest to grow and sustain the herd and protect them from poachers.

They would be gone without the private ranches catering to hunters.

You should probably stop commenting on things you are supremely ignorant about.

There has been a 40% reduction of Giraffes in the last 30 years and there about 80,000 left on the planet.

Stupid kill is a stupid kill.

Right. Because of poaching and habitat destruction.

So let's take away the #1 incentive for landowners to conserve the population and see how those numbers look in a few years?

What do you think will happen?

Sometimes you have to thin the herd. Addition by subtraction

Poachers have chopped the tusks off about 35 elephants since this thread began, hunters.....one.

The only way these animals stand a chance over there is for foreigners to pay tons of money to kill one. But it is a losing proposition right now.

She go #$%% herself. That's how I feel about it.
Deserves all the outrage that comes with it.

I really like the idea of growing domesticated herds for the sole purpose of harvesting ivory

It would crush the poaching industry

but once again, people that claim to want to conserve the animals let the emotions control their thoughts too much and balk at the idea of taming wild animals
