why aren't these things wireless?

I like the Night Owl camera system, easy to set up and good quality recordings. I think it was about $300 at Costco for a 4-camera system with DVR.

Well obviously locking the doors would have prevented it. The 1 time I don’t this happens.
Makes you a little sick to your stomach when you consider how many times they may have tried opening your door before they caught you with it unlocked.

It really depends on if you want to pay a monthly subscription or if you want to go completely DIY
I went DIY and built a small one camera system for less than $100 as a tinkering project. It's worked so well I have not upgraded it
POE cam $45
Blue Iris security software $50
I have a router that supports POE and an old computer that I turned into an NVR

You might want to start doing that...

Just in case you are wondering how well cameras work, this is from my house in 2013. GF at the time left her door unlocked..like you did..and this guy is currently in prison for 5 years b/c the Tactical Unit recognized him.

Although cameras won't prevent a breakin, at least you can see your stuff getting stolen

I have a video of a really young group of kids in my neighborhood checking my wife's car door to see if it was unlocked.
Ring has a neighborhood group on the app so you can share your video with everyone that has a Ring. I did that and sent to cops.
Almost felt bad because I think these kids were like 12 years old, but whatever.

A truly wireless system (battery powered and wifi) has two security flaws.
1. A savvy thief can jam the wifi radio frequency breaking the connection to the NVR
2. battery life suffers when the camera angle catches passing traffic.

They have wireless options (battery and solar). The doorbell works better when its wired to the pre-existing doorbell connection. The additional cameras I put in place of my pre-existing floodlights (they have a motion floodlight on them).
So I didn't have to do much of anything.

exactly... I've said all along, theres no telling how much this goes on. i couldn't wait to get mine put in for that reason, but to be honest i havent even hardly done many reviews on mine. thats the one thing i wish was better was being able to review footage faster. mine will fast forward 16x, but still takes a minute if you're trying to review a whole night, or several nights

I have the Vivint smarthome setup and have been happy with it. From the app I can see front and back yards plus 2 inside cameras and window break sensors. Plus it records clips when activated by motion. Like $60/mth with no equipment to purchase.

Find a distributor or security integrator to sell you this, and get an SD card from Walmart for it. Should all come in under $300.

Messican...dude had a major drug problem and the funny thing is, when we noticed that her car was broken into, I reviewed the footage up until 6:30am and couldn't find anything

Gotcha. Looked like Texas inspection sticker, so that would have been my next guess.

I don't know shite about them, but every time they show a Nola crime on the news it looks like video from my papa's flip phone
we can look at a grain of beach sand from space orbit moving at 217k miles an hour, but we can't watch Theo and Lionel stealing a car from 20ft
