I believe the heat causes the bumps. I use mildly warm water, shaving cream, then immediately wash with cold water. Doesn't matter what kind of razor, just use what you like. Don't use blazing hot water on the blades either. You heat them up then scrape your face with them, I think it burns your skin somewhat.

When I started using this method I eliminated bumps completely.
