I don't believe Grant ever beat Jackson, the real military genius of that war.
Grant never had to.
The "genius" got shot by his own men.

Well this is just bullshite.
Lee treated his father-in-law's slaves horrendously.
He was notorious for mistreatment among his slaves.

Because blacks were seen as a commodity, for lack of a better term, to plantation owners. Absolutely fricking them up would’ve hurt their bottom line.
yep, a good read on that is about the great Mississippi River flood after the war, something...tide rising, idr... landowners/business owners were doing what they could to entice them to stay, still racism, but a lot of opportunity for them started there

Well, if Ewell had done what Lee said and taken Cemetery Hill on the first day, Pickett might not have had to make that charge. Don’t give me the “if practical” nonsense, Lee was a gentleman and treated his subordinates as such. If anything, that is Lee’s biggest mistake, being too nice to his subordinates.

So when does the day come when people learn that the civil war was instigated by an external entity and not really about slavery at all?
ETA...all you "baws" obviously don't know WTF I'm talking about. What a shame.

So did Grant.
What's your point?

And if they'd have broken Chamberlain's line, he might not have had to make the charge.
It's funny, all the West Point, military geniuses the South had got stopped by a school teacher from small town Maine with no military training.
That's what is called "being a natural".

Where in the frick have you read this? Because the only time I’ve ever heard of his horrendous treatment was him whipping some slaves for escaping.

I guess you don’t understand that the force in defense has the upper hand? Especially when attacking uphill. An entrenched enemy has the upper hand.

You don't know why Chamberlain won the day, do you?
Staying entrenched would have led to his defeat.

Eh calling the North outright good guys is a tad disengenous although the South isn't the innocent side this board would like you to believe

repeat of what I posted earlier but deleted because I didn't want to get into this, but look at the origin of Arlington Cemetery, pretty low life if you ask me

Yeah, when they finally ran out of ammunition, they charged downhill with the bayonet.

I think you have to be both a great tactician AND a great strategist to be considered a military genius (ala Napoleon or Alexander the Great).
Jackson was certainly a talented battlefield tactician. But he was never in a position to define strategy. The ANV's strategy was 100% Robert E. Lee.

You think we'd have won independence if Washington chose the British?
You think they'd have kept fighting through that first winter without Washington?
