Besides runners usually have pretty pathetic physiques.
Nope.
I lift three days a week, and run three days a week.
This has been my routine for years.
Several posters here know me personally. I'm almost 40 and have the body of a greek gawd.
6ft even, currently weigh between 182-188, depending on the day of the week.

If you're doing any type of exercise, gym or cardio, without your diet being on point, you won't get the results you want.

I was referring to people who run only namely distance runners.

Nope.

You can gain mass, but will also add a stomach in the process. To me, there is a difference from bulking and dirty bulking.

. Also, repetitive movements like running are known to cause long-term negative effects such as arthritis and other degenerative issues.

quote:amateur or no amateur. this doesn't matter one bit. i'd say an amateur is at more risk of injury due to limited knowledge of all the other stuff you need to do outside of running to make sure you're body is ready. but at the end of the day, It's about movement quality, existing dysfunction and genetics.....as it is in lifting a barbell or a bag of groceries

and all these "this elite dude vs. this elite dude" has no bearing on 95% of the population. They are elite because of 2 things that are required:genetics and dedication. With only one or the other, you can be good, but never elite.

But I was lifting with a friend who was a bigger body type and he made some noticeable gains in mass.
Your friend was doing a cycle. You were not.

I've been on both ends of the spectrum here..
At one point I was a sub 4:45 mile and had my 5k time down below 17:30... And then at another point I was only lifting heavy trying to max out everything, gained a ton of weight, etc.
My body feels at it's best when I'm doing both running fast and lifting consistently. Don't pick either or. Do both.
