It´s a stainless watch, where are people getting the potential scrap value of gold?

I missed that too earlier. But another poster was talking about his father's watch. It was a sidetrack.

I just found the listing. 146xxxx according the listing which is weird because wouldn't that pre date the cases with rounded crown guards?
From the auction website
quote:
40mm case with replaced lightly faded screen printed metal bezel insert and rounded crown guards. Printed between lugs at top is "Registered Design 1675" and at bottom "Serial Number 146XXXX." A few light pin point indentations consistent with moderate daily use. Has a gloss, "Swiss" only, chapter ring dial with luminescence on hour markers each having vintage touch ups. Dial reads "Rolex/Oyster-Perpetual/GMT-Master/Superlative Chronometer/Officially Certified." Skeleton hands are silver and GMT hand has small arrow that is missing it's lume and has a tiny spec of missing red paint. Movement is a Cal. 1560, rhodium plated, 26 jewel lever escarpment with monometallic balance adjusted to five positions and temperatures. It is not currently running but the rotor does move freely. Crystal appears to be original or replaced very early on with proper cyclops date magnification. Case, dial, and movement are signed and overall the piece displays Fine/VF. A scarce example of an early tool watch by Switzerland's most recognizable brand. See additional detailed photos online.

Be very skeptical, the vintage Rolex market is loaded with fakes. Reputable auction house or not.

This one is definitely not original but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good deal.
Posted on 2/28/16 at 9:07 pm to Barf
Yea, I would stay away from that.

After having better pictures I can answer your original question. Yes it will sell for more than $1200. I say $5600. Keep us posted.

There is no possible way that Rolex in the pictures above will sell for $5600.

I think you will be surprised.

Depends... Are you buying to wear or to collect?
If buying to wear... No... You will spend at least to price of the watch to repair the watch.
If you are collecting as a possible investment... maybe... A vintage functional Rolex can fetch a high price, but a repaired Rolex's price may vary depending on the certification of the repair center.

I wouldn't pay $1200 for any watch. It's a watch.

This is a modern $1200 watch. I think it's worth it.

So do you drive a Nissan Versa? It's just a car, right?

You might want to ask yourself how much it would cost to get it running again.

I would never pay anything like that for a watch. I would have a hard time paying the cost of a smart watch. But I could convince myself because of the many functions the watch provides.

What am I missing?
I am seeing Pepsi's, on a bracelet, running and in excellent cosmetic condition, for $5500-$6500.
ETA: add a link ( Watch joke, get it? I kill me.)
A Pepsi for $5995

You have no idea what people will pay, especially vintage watch collectors. If I had the time and that was a design I liked more I could easily pick that up for $1200.

It appears to be a very early GMT. It's sort of a rare bird. There is quite literally zero chance of that auction ending anywhere close to $1,200.
Not overly familiar with GMT's so I can't really point out specifics, hopefully someone with more knowledge can point out what makes this watch valuable.
