If I want an ETA, I'll get a Squale, Steinhart, Ch. Ward, etc.

Agreed. I have a PAM 111 with what is a gussied up ETA movement. I bought it for a song though in 2009 when the economy was in the toilet. i have thought about selling it a few times and getting one of the newer ones with an in house but just never got around to it.

You aren't getting an inhouse movement for 3k

Yeah, I guess that's my point. That 3k range is kind of no man's land, isn't it?

As I've said, I don't have any great watches, Seiko, Citizen, and Orient. I would like to buy something nicer, but that $2k-$3k range doesn't leave a ton of options, other than ETA's. Which I have no problem with, but if I am getting an ETA, I am going to save some money and get one of those I listed or get a Grand Seiko movement.

Maybe, I'm completely off. That's just my opinion at this point.

Does a 4K watch tell better time than a $500 or $50 watch?

Just remember, no one gives a damn what's on your wrist and if you want to pass down a heirloom, get a Kimber .45

You can get a Seiko in-house movement for under $100. Orient? Citizen?

Or rather an authentic GI Colt 1911. Something that does work too...

5k for a frikkin watch? you wanna get jumped?

buy what you like man...don't matter what folks think

years back, I bought a rolex for 238.00 then sold it in the 80's for 550...it really didn't keep grat time...it looked cool, or so I thought

2nd time I pissed away 1500 on an Omega x-33 Mars watch...it was another cool lookin watch, but kept banging it to stuff on the dock at work...then my eyes got bad and I couldn't read the dial...I just put it away and got a Mondaine for 150.00 and I'm pretty happy with that. tired of chasing down pricey watches

that omega seamaster below looks pretty nice, clean lines, no date crap to constantly mess with, and might be near 500 in good used shape, but just a guess, never bought used omega, and don't really know the market

even if I won lotto, I'd likely not spend more than 200

Just because you don't like watches, doesn't make you right.

I would love to have inherited an heirloom watch.

a 47 mm watch would look like I attached a club to my arm.

I feel the same way. Why would Tudor put an ETA in the Black Bay. I know it's a solid movement, but I find it odd. This is an honest question, but is it shameful to spend 3k on a watch with that movement? I don't know much about watches.

The navy bezel Black Bay is so awesome and I'm sure the ETA is a very solid movement, probably on par with the pellagos....that being said, why not just put an in house movement??

I really like the new Ch. Ward C60's.

I am too critical tho, I look at pics of it and the lume leaves something to be desired, again...compared to a $170 Seiko SKX007

It can, but won't necessarily. Just like it will impress some folks and won't impress others. You will need to decide if the people it impresses are the type of folks that are important to you. All it tells me about someone is that they had some money and used it to buy a watch....I guess it also tells me they could let me know the time...

I love watches.

For me, it is not about the price, it is about the look.

I have $100 watches that I love and I have $3000 watches that I love.

One day I will have a Rolex because my grandfather had one and I always thought it was cool and have always wanted one.

Exactly. Was it a way to make the watch more "affordable". I love the blue black bay, and it's currently the leader in the clubhouse, but the eta movement wigs me out for some reason.

ETA makes 80% of watch movements. There is nothing wrong with ETA.

Some of you would benefit from reading a few books such as "Millionaire Next Door" and "Financial Peace". IIRC, only about 3% of millionaires ever spent over $500 on a watch, let that sink in.

Back to the OP, a Nomos Tangomat Datum is right at $4k. It's a beautiful watch.

So you're judging me for making a judgment statement? GFY

BTW, I gave him two good choices, and I do like watches myself.
