Actually they are not done largely by machine (again subjective). It still takes them about a year to make a watch. They use robots but those robots are controlled by humans. Robots do polishing but then they are finish polished by humans. Read this article from a well respected watch blog:
And come one. The "year to make a watch" figure has always been what caused folks to throw up the flag. I know their facilities are state of the art, but they put out 1,000,000 watches per year. There's no way it takes a year to make each one of their popular models. They make more watches than the other lower-tier luxury brands, in fact.
And hey, I'm a fan. Wish I could afford one.

95% of automatic watches allow for hand winding

I think it may be true. They fill their pipeline with TONS of watches and walk through the process which gives them a ton of watches every year. I think there may be some logistics tomfoolery though. Who knows honestly. I don't.

I have 5 automatic watches. All allow for hand winding. Really it's best to get the mainspring wound up good before you put the watch into motion.

Yeah you can buy a black, brown whatever and change them out. It's simple.

I think the Air Kings (or at least most) are quartz. Don't spend thousands of dollars on a quartz watch
Tell me more.
The Air King has a Sapphire crystal.

Tachymeters with chronos are so much more useful than rotating bezels.

Well for one thing they're not Quartz. Rolex has only made one Quartz watch and that was in the 1970s.
The Air King was updated in 2016 to look like this:
Here's a Review
The Oyster Perpetual is similarly priced, but a different style: Review
But the real winner in that range is the Explorer I: Review
The Air King is 40mm, the other two are 39. All good sizes.
