posters who are saying that their kids are getting homework done w/in an hour or so probably doesn't have homework assignments in every single subject every night. If the they do and are still claiming that, they are full of shite. I posted my child's weekly assignments on page 2 and there's no damn way a 4th grade child can finish all that shite under 1 hour.

4-5 hours of homework is too much. Period.

we are talking about an 8 year old coming hoome from school and taking a nap at 4 oclock in the afternoon.....4th graders do not need naps

1. Aren't 4th graders 10 years old?
2. The OP's kid gets home between 4:30-4:45 that is too late for a nap, maybe 30 mins of exercise would boost her energy levels.
3. Everybody benefits from a 30 minute nap as long as it during the proper time of the day.

the have recess, weekends, holidays, vacations, etc.....homework in the 4th grade shouldn't take 4 hours to complete. I dont understand if the kid gets out of school at 315.....even if the homework took her 2 hours...thats still plenty of time for her to "be a kid" after school

Maybe the child is getting way too much homework. I just get the feeling OP is leaving out info.

i think hes also neglected to address if other parents are dealing with the same issue.

at this point, none of us have any idea if its the teacher or the kid/parent that are abnormal here.

Common Core

1. Nothing to do with Common Core. My daughter went through CC homework assignments last year before we moved to TX. Don't think she ever had 4 hours of written homework.

2. Obama did not invent Common Core, nor was it his initiative. See Governors' Association.

3. If poster lives in Louisiana, Jindal brought Common Core to his state.

She has a little after school activity immediately after school until we get home. Violin/Piano lessons. Then we give her a break for an hour to wind down which she usually takes a nap. Then we start on homework. If she didn't take a nap, there's no damn way she would make it through doing all of that damn work.

So, I posted her schedule for this week on page 2 of this thread for this week? You don't feel like that's too much for a 4th grader?

This

Also...I would think a nap that late in the day would mess up sleep schedules.

It's the OT. Almost everyone here was the hardest working SOB when they were young, and they're Top 1 percentile parents.

You and your daughter just need to step up yall's game, bro.

She naps for the entire hour?

That's too long for a nap. She'll wake up groggy as hell from it and will be sluggish right after waking up.

Have you tried talking to the teacher about this? Other parents to see if they are having the same issue?

When you are brainwashing kids to be a bunch of liberals when they grow up, you've got to really drive it home.

If you are driving it that route, I would go with "They are keeping them so busy to keep parents from being able to give their own political views over time."

try some outdoor play that will increase her energy levels without messing up her nighttime sleep. See one of my earlier post for the benefits of exercise raising energy levels.

I don't know the length of time she takes a nap b/c my wife gets home first. I just know she takes one. I think it's usually around 30-45 minutes. Could be longer.

We've already had one teacher conference and requested that she give the homework assignments in advance so we could plan ahead and possible work on it over the weekends, but the teacher never did that. My wife was supposed to send another note this week with the same request.

yeah, I can see how that would wear her out

maybe you should mix in gymnastics or dancing once a week as well.

My daughter is in the second grade, she does violin, piano, ballet and gymnastics...I wish I could get her to take a nap sometimes......I can barely get her to go to sleep some nights.

She's not tired from all that?

I was poor so I only was involved with Girl Scouts that age. That kept me busy enough though.

Have you tried minding your own fricking business and sticking to threads you know something about? Like dogs, nursing and huge feet?
