I get a pain in my left shoulder, very top, doesn't go down my arm. It doesn't happen all the time for me though.

Oh and don't listen to most of these douche bags who couldn't run to the mailbox if they tried.

Ok here's the deal:

Your subclavius is the problem, but your breathing is probably the cause.

Take a tennis ball, cut an X in a side, and push a dowel or pvc pipe into th ball. The stick should be about 3ft long. Place the bare end of the stick against a wall at chest height, and use the ball side to massage the subclavius, rocking side to side.

If all this is too much, just put the ball against a wall, but it will be hard so close.

As for the breathing, you need to stop "chest breathing" and learn how to breathe into your gut. You probably have tacked down core muscles and need to massage with a soft ball. The cheap bouncy ones around the size of a soccer ball are perfect, just lay on it and breathe "into the ball"

Thanks for the advice. How serious is this? Also when it acts up, what can do for immediate relief if a tennis ball is not handy?

Is it recent or always?? I wasn't running at the time but had something very similar .. I had costochondritis (cartilage inflammation). Couldn't lay down and breathe; felt like I was going to die.

IMO, not serious if you fix the breathing. You can always use the fingers of the opposite hand, but that's not optimal. Follow up with a basic doorway chest stretch coupled with turning your head toward the opposite shoulder.

I've had this plenty.

Also look into pec minor releases, basically roll on a soft ball sized ball on the floor with your arm overhead and the ball on your pec minor.

Exercise can trigger reflux.
But it's probably Ebola.

Tiger91, it's been for past 2-3 months

I feel weak and like I'm going to die or have a heart attach

Was with my kid at target yesterday when it happened and I thought we were going to have to call 911. I thought it could be low blood sugar so I downed a bag of jelly bellys but that didn't help

Seriously, awful pain and it wouldn't go away. Sleeping was a bitch, had to take a pill to knock me out

Perhaps you're too light? I think at 5'10" 170-175 would be a healthier weight.

You're one of the most whiney pussies on this site, and that is saying a lot. It's either something is hurting, you don't know what to do with your wife, you have gas, or you're concerned to eat 200 empty calories.
