I've seen her live a couple times. I think the her voice sounds great and what the OP posted isn't very representative.

Thursday i had to listen to an entire album of some guy who could not sing a note. He emoted. Endodontist, root canal. Found out his identity after. This woman is the analogous female.

Her voice is that shitty dying cat voice that every hipster white girl under the age of 30 is using. Its the stylized musical version of their normal speaking voice, "vocal fry".
It's put-on and redundant at this point. It was cute 25 years ago when Lisa Loeb did it and it was cute for about 10 seconds when Nelly Furtado made it blow up. Now it's unoriginal and annoying. It's a crutch and a cover for girls who can't or maybe can sing. Who knows. I wouldn't be able to tell either way with their pop-culture cover.
It's the white girl version of the black guys "rapper auto tune". Hell, maybe these equally awful affectations are subconscious mating calls between the two demographics. A secret, deep-seated yearning for BBC and lily white snatch like two songs birds filling the air with fart noises to draw each other closer.
Oh, and... IWHI

That sums it up well. We were trying to watch American Idol (no clue why), but every singer, male or female, is doing that overly breathy awful singing. It sounds so affected and dumb. It also makes me feel old and “get off my lawn” when I realize this is what kids are into these days.

This is much better but I stick with what I said. She doesn't do acoustic very well and she needs to be singing country, she has the voice for it.

I pretty much agree with the opinions on this thread...
She doesn't enunciate her words and needs to sing a bit more from her diaphram.
Actually has a great voice, but this genre isn't great for her.

And if you have watched any of the, make me famous talent shows, these type singers come along. The judges always say what a unique voice! Nobody sounds like you!
