OT Physicians/Scientists - Can Extra Virgin Olive Oil Reduce Inflammation?

Like to the point that pain is completely gone?
I have some issues with my right shoulder from benching. My orthopedic told me that it was my deltoid and supraspinatus and to back off lifting weights for a while. He also prescribed me a pain killer/anti-inflammatory and advised me on some exercises that could help strengthen the sore muscles. That was in December.
I started going to the weight room in February again and took it slow. By April I was back at full form with little issue, but sure enough, the pain and stiffness came back by the end of May.
Earlier this week, I satisfied a craving for Mediterranean food and consumed almost a 1/4 of a cup of olive oil in one meal. The next day, my shoulder pain was gone.
Thinking the olive oil may have had something to do with it, I consumed 1/4 cup of olive oil (throughout the day in various meals) every day, and I've had no pain in my shoulder since Monday. I also have full range of motion.
I'm still hitting the gym as well.
Could the olive oil really be helping here? Placebo effect? Coincidence?

Don't know about the olive oil, but I've got inflammation issues as well. I quit sugar and it helped clear up most of my issues. ( neck stiffness) Still feel like I sleep better with a couple of advil every night.

Doesn't exist...much less extra. I haven't found one yet since 15.

No, but you should talk to yoga girl about using crystals.

Do you mean refined sugar?
I haven't eaten much sugar this week either, but I did have cake on Sunday night and some M&M's on Wednesday night.
But I have eaten quite a bit of carbs from pasta for the past few days.

Could help your lipid profile if used instead of other fats but no way it's fixing your shoulder. Would use the 1/4 cup of oil to massage the shoulder instead or to rub one out.

Semen oil still the best

There are a bunch of natural ingredients tied to lower inflammation like rosemary, ginger, turmeric, and yes olive oil. It could be placebo effect given how fast your turn around is, but point is you certainly aren't hurting yourself by incorporating it into your diet. Mediterranean diet is extremely good for you.

Then any idea what could be going on? I hate to claim miracle, but this shite has been bothering me for a while and it took drugs to assuage the pain.
It's gone. Like 100% feeling fine. Even better than when I was on the pain killers and not lifting weights.

I teach a course on nutriceuticals, herbals, supplements, etc. Of the resources I have access to, this is what is said about olive oil and inflammation -
"Olive oil might also have anti-inflammatory effects by decreasing pro-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acid concentrations and increasing anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acid concentrations. The metabolites of oleic acid, an omega-9 monounsaturated fatty acid, in olive oil seem to competitively inhibit the production of inflammatory omega-6 fatty acid prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Oleic acid metabolites might also suppress production of inflammatory cytokines.
Olive oil also contains oleocanthal, which might be responsible for some of the anti-inflammatory effects of olive oil. This compound shares some pharmacological properties with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen. Oleocanthal inhibits both cyclooxygenase (COX) 1 and 2."
So there you go. Possible, but not sure about a 1/4 cup a day. It also has powerful phenolic antioxidants that prevent oxidation of LDL cholesterol (decreases LDL participation in atherogenesis), and prevents platelet aggregation.

Its just a monounsaturated fat. There's nothing magic going on. We eat monounsaturated fats at similar quantities all the time and still get aches and pains.

I'd like to know more about how you consumed a 1/4 cup of olive oil in one meal.
Describe the entree and sides you ate to get that amount of intake......

Depends. If using it to replace conventional oils, yes
Coconut oil, olive oil, ghee, butter are preferred
Intermittent fasting can also assist with inflammation

Olive oil helps for sure. Fish oil is a stronger anti inflammatory
Turmeric powder is a very powerful anti inflammatory as well. Most of your spices and high antioxidant foods will provide those effects. Acerola cherries are arguably the strongest and you can find extracts at places like gnc. Ginger works great also.
Eating fish helps allot (cause of the healthy fats) but remember farm raised fish like tilapia are fed grains,dogfood,ect.. that give them bad fats instead of your healthy omegas fish obtain from wild diets.

Monday night I had pasta aglio e olio. 1/2 box of spaghetti, 4 garlic cloves, and olive oil. I also had sliced tomatoes with grated sarcino cheese and basil and olive oil drizzled over the top.
It honestly was more than 1/4 cup of olive oil because I had 1/4 cup of oil in the pasta itself and then some more drizzled over the tomatoes.
Was meant to be an indulgent meal but I've been adding olive oil to everything since.
