OT Mechanics Question

I have a 2004 Silverado. It's a salvage title vehicle I got in 2009. I had a few electrical issues when I first got it, when I mean little i'm talking simple wire issues like not being connected or wires that looked like they got eaten by a rat or something.
Anyways, I've always had this issue where the truck won't start sometimes. Turn the key and nothing happens at all. radio and air and all come on, but not a single sound comes from the engine when I turn the key. I keep turning the key several times and eventually it will start no problem. Sometimes I have to turn the key 2 or 3 times and it starts, sometimes it takes 20-30 turns. Sometimes I go a long time without the problem, sometimes it happens quite frequently. It's never not started, and it's been happening since I got it.
Any idea as to why this happens?

There is no sound whatsoever, other than the radio and air eventually coming on.

why would it recognize that the i'm in the on position and the radio/air comes on but the actual ignition not work?

It's not your ignition switch, it's the starter solenoid.

take the ignition switch out of the equation.
there is a connector on the steering column that houses the wires that electrify all of the connections necessary for the truck to start and run.
on chevys its normally orange or red 12 gauge for battery and purple 12 or 14 for the starter solenoid.
jump these hot with large gauge wire connected to some good gauge wire or use a starter switch and if it turns over every time you know its the ignition switch. if you still have the issue its probably a bad ground or dirty connection at the starter.
typical ignition switches on chevys and ford are built the same and they like to work themselves apart over years of use and you get a intermittent problem like you posted about.

good chance it's corroded connections somewhere. Solenoid/starter, battery, etc.
