OT Lawyers: An insurance company stated they have the authority to confiscate carseats

if they are expired upon inspection of a vehicle.
So if a person is in an accident and they bring the vehicle to the collision repair location, the insurance company inspects the car seats upon arrival and takes expired seats away.
That seems illegal as that is private property being confiscated by a private company.
To highlight the absurdity: Who's to say a person doesn't like having carseats in their car to strap in groceries or blowup dolls?

No idea. I googled this as a contractual possibility just now and didn't immediately see anything - it's why I asked.

If you're in an accident and the car has car seats in it then your insurance company (or responsible party's insurance) will give you brand new ones for free. Even if it's just a small fender bender.

Your car seat is no longer "safe" after an accident. If it is confiscated, go get a new one a have it reimbursed by your insurer.

I am betting this is a quote taken out of context. As in, these are seats provided to the customer for free by the insurance company but they can take the seats back upon expiration since the seats remained the property of the insurance company.
I don't think anyone, much less an insurance company with a building full of lawyers, thinks they can seize your personal property because of an expiration date. They can feel free to come get the milk out of my refrigerator though.

After taking the car seat, did they replace it or reimburse you for the cost in the settlement?
