Nope, if the child is a full time student on the other side of the world you still have to cut a check to the mom. I know a guy that was paying his ex child support for a 28 year old PhD student.

If it were me, I would attend if I didn't have an agreement in writing prior to the hearing. There are ways in Alabama people can manipulate the numbers in the support calculation. It's an adversarial process. Don't let it be one sided.

i just hope she works and you haven't had a substantial increase since 14 years ago(sadly, I would think you have, i just hope her income increased as well or the formula will banana you)

It goes till the child is 18 or graduation from High School. Which ever comes first.
If the kid decides to go to college and continues to live with the mother then it would continue on past the age of 18.

I have been through two of these and unless you have some unusual circumstances, a lawyer won't be able to help you nor will defending yourself. The Judge in AP literally told me I was smart not to have wasted money hiring an attorney when I showed up to my hearing.
It's that black-and-white for us normal working stiffs(not self-employed). I would go however to make sure the amount is exactly what's stated in the CS/Income Tables for La. If your ex can verify that, you both can have the new amount filed with Court and not go through with the hearing.

Right. Both my judgments(LA and MS) state that reasonable support for the adult kids is expected when they go to college or trade school etc after HS. So it's not a hard number you pay anymore but you could be on the hook for not helping with tuition, books, etc.

Doesn't affect me but if you are married to the mother then you you get to decide if you want to help with college but if not you're forced too?

My experience was.... its based on numbers, not really subjective. Numbers will be what they will be whether your attending or not. I wouldn't go.

I pay $400 / month for child support for 2 kids, make twice as much as the Ex and I kept the house in the divorce.
