Since their were no photos to aspire to, artists sought to capture the truth of their subject in a manner other than photo realism.

Because today’s artists can use MS Paint to help their artwork look more like the photograph

Something that ‘looks like a photograph’ is merely the application of a linear perspective, which had to be invented in the 14th century. The little thing called the Renaissance followed
