14 years ago they didn't spec WRGFCI receptacles or even make them.
If you pull the GFI, turn the breaker that's been tripping off first. Sometimes the whole back of the GFI will be gone.

If it's after the gfi on the same circuit its protected by that gfi as well as everything else after the gfi.

Right, but I expect that the OP has either a GFCI Breaker or the outlet protecting the circuit is indoors.

What model Masterbuilt smoker do you have? I looked on the website and it could have a 800 watt up and to determine how many amps it pulls we really need a model or go to the website and post the URL of the smoker.
I found one model that is 1500 watts which is 12.5 amps at 120vac. A circuit breaker is rated for 80% of nameplate for continuous duty which in this case is only 12 amps.

Perhaps he pressure washed where the GFI was on another wall? The end result is the same. Covers are not even weather resistant much less driven water resistant.
Hesitate to get involved in these threads, because few if any come back and say what it was. The help runs deep in me I guess.

If the circuit has a GFCI on it, doubtful there is a gfci or afci breaker in the panel.
How old is the house? Do you know what other outlets are fed off that circuit before the GFCI? If it is an older house you could have some back stabbed outlets before the GFCI that are causing issues, water in the GFCI, or the breaker is just bad itself.
Just my 2 cents.

I was plugging the smoker into a gfci outlet. Both outside outlets on this circuit are gfci. BTW, the nail gun worked before the issue with the smoker and after. Nail Gun never tripped the outlet or circuit breaker. I had chalked it up to the smoker but then overnight it tripped again.

Did not get that in my initial reading, it is an actual GFCI outlet, like in the pictures below? Not just an outlet on the Circuit?
If it is and the outlets GFCI is not tripping, I suspect you breaker is just aging and getting "weak". Also means you likely have an AFCI breaker and not a GFCI. Thee is no reason to have a GFCI or combo breaker and GFCI outlets.
BTW, what area do you live in and let us know the outcome.

Taking a small detour from the OP question here based on the GFCI discussion.
Older house with decent wiring. Wasn’t built with GFCI outlets. Is replacing breakers with GFCI breakers a good way to protect those circuits? Or is it better to replace outlets with GFCI outlets?

If you know where the first receptacle on the circuit is you can replace that one with a GFI receptacle and everything after it will be protected.
Since that is not likely, it would be easier to replace the breaker assuming you know what you are doing. If not just have an electrician do it. A hot panel is no joke.

If the outlets you want to protect are all on the same circuit, the breaker is easy but will probably be a little more expensive than one gfci outlet, $40-$70 per breaker vs $15-$40 per outlet.
You can use one GFCI outlet to protect the entire circuit downstream of the outlet, but you have to know which outlet is the first in the circuit. Using a breaker means you don't need to find the first outlet in the line you want to protect. If you use more than one GFCI outlet, there is no cost advantage over a GFCI breaker.
I have a breaker, it has the bathrooms, garage, and outdoor outlets on the circuit. House was built in 81.
ETA: Let me second what kengel2 said. If you do not feel completely confident about operating in a hot panel, call an electrician. Ideally, if you do it yourself, you should kill the main breaker first, if possible. And keep in mind there is still power going into the panel from the feed from the meter unless you have an external cutoff. Be careful, call an electrician if you are unsure or hesitant, a breaker change out will not be that expensive.
