The circuit breaker to the lights inside my garage keeps tripping. What's the problem and is it something that a not so handy man could fix or do I need an electrician?

How much might a call for an electrician to fix such a problem cost?

Like 5, never had an issue in 6 years until about 2 months ago though.

There is going to be more on that circuit than the garage lights. I would start by seeing what else in on the circuit that maybe causing the issue

Tell your husband to look at it or call an electrician.

$125-150 plus materials.

It's probably not something a layman can troubleshoot.

A lot of people are going to suggest this fix or that fix, but in reality, they really don't know. I'm not even going to begin to try to solve the problem through this medium. It could be something that can be fixed in 10 minutes, or it could take half a day and cost $500+

Call sparky.

There is either a fault, overload, or the breaker is going bad.

Breakers can and do fail but I would eliminate the first two choices.

A competent person can change a small breaker for a few bucks and 5 minutes but if you don't know what you are doing inside a panel get someone who does.

The call should be free, depending on your phone plan.

at worst, it could be something that is hidden or buried.

more than likely, it's a wire touching something, got loose over time, etc.

Leave it off until you can get someone to look at it
