No I'm going to give Nasacort. I'm hoping that and some spicy crawfish open my nose up.

Thanks for the help everyone.

What exactly does sinus surgery do to relieve congestion?

Have you tried any of the OTC sprays such as Nasacort or Afrin?

Give one of those a shot for a 3-5 days. Don't overuse though cause there can be a rebound effect (Afrin).

I would not use a vasoconstrictor like Afrin due to the rebound effect and the fact that it works so well you're likely to overuse it and end up in a sort of miserable congested withdrawal when you want to stop. Nasacort is a steroid and should be OK. I would use Breathe-Right strips and Nasacort or fluticasone (Rx only), and if it didn't improve, I would add Allegra, and as a last resort, I'd consider Sudafed, which I don't like as it makes me feel kind of funny.

Sudafed (technically OTC but sold behind the counter ironically)

Allegra

I've found OTC NasalCrom to work pretty good. Got it at Walmart.

If you do to the doc, ask, demand, Decadron. Or Kenalog. And probably Rocephen.

ETA: I'm not a doctor.

Cut it off. But don't do it just to spite your face.

agreed...I personally knew many folks who were "addicted" to afrin back in the old days...

I always though I had an allergy problem so I treated it as such. Really bad congestion headaches and pressure. It would never go away so I went to an ent doctor. Did X-ray and ct scan, come to find out I had a really bad deviated septum and my sinus cavities were heavily filled and inflamed. The deviated septum was blocking my left side sinus passage so they fixed that and then cleared out my sinus cavities

Rebound congestion is a big problem for many people though.
