Had the procedure yesterday morning. Currently taking antibiotics and took some Alieve this afternoon...for some reason, the pain is increasing.

I will gut it out...I assume this is part of the process. When should I contact my dentist to tell him he did a hack job and to correct his work?

I appreciate the serious feedback. Thank you.

ETA: first root canal procedure for me.

My understanding was they aren't as painful as they used to be but I've never had one.

At this moment, I wish I have the numbing shot he gave me right before the procedure....I can gut out this pain, but I don't think I am going to get much sleep tonight.

I got oxy following my root canal. It was like sleeping on cotton candy.

I've had one on a molar. The procedure is painless after the numbing injection. I had very little pain after it was over as well.

OP, doesn't your dentist have an answering service? Call it and let them know what's going on.

I think he has Saturday office hours...if the pain is the same, I will swing by the office. Mentioned to me if I have pain, he can take off the temp. cap and relieve the pressure.

I was prescribed vicodin after mine but I never took one. I had very little to no pain.

Same. It wasn't as bad or as painful as everyone says

Hate to break it to you. But if your pain is getting worse, then he did the wrong tooth. The nerves get jumbled up in there, and sometimes the pain you think is coming from one tooth is actually coming from the one next to it.

When you have a root canal, he removes the nerve. Period. It cannot hurt. Because it's gone. The tooth was cracked and exposing the nerve and causing pain. Only way to stop it is to remove the tooth or remove the nerve. Thus, a root canal.

If it still hurts, it's because the wrong nerve was removed. Happened to me, and actually happens all the time. Sorry to be a bummer, but you need another root canal.

I had very little pain but the glue or whatever that was was some kind of nasty tasting, and it lasted for about 3 days.

You better at least call them back and tell them about your pain.

If you have pain tomorrow, call them and let them know. Pain from a root canal should resolve pretty quickly after unless you had a really bad infection, then it may take time for the antibiotic to get rid of the infection. I know dentists who don't give pain meds afterwards, so not him being negligent. In fact, if there is another issue, pain meds would only mask the true issue and it would go unresolved. It's typically not as traumatic as getting teeth pulled which most people assoc getting pain meds prescribed for.

Have had two, one 25 years ago. both procedures were painless and other than a slightly sore jaw from the injections and holding my mouth open, no pain afterwards, no pain meds needed, took antibiotics prior, but not after. The idea is to get rid of the pain , not cause more, I would go in and get a x-ray of it and see what is going on.
