Why make a 27k car a beater?

I beat the shite out of my first car. Now? I baby it except on the tollway :D

I had a nice car as my first car. My sister had a brand new infiniti FX as her first car. We both took care of them because we were scared of our dad and knew he'd sell them if we fricked them up.

Some kids can handle it, some cant. I think you're more prone to treat your car like shite if it's a beater. If you think your kid can handle it, I don't see why it's a problem if you have the money for it.

I get that, but even with the money I make now, there's no way in hell a child of mine could convince me to buy them a used GTR or a used RC-F / RC350 ...BMW M2 etc...

I guess it's more an upbringing thing. I'd get my kid a civic .

It just depends on the upbringing. I went to a private school so it wasn't unusual to see kids driving new entry level Audis, BMWs, or 3-4 year old legit luxury vehicles like an M5 or an SL500. Part of it is the parents wanting to show off and compete with each other. But there's another part of it where parents use it to teach the kids to take care of their shite.

I had a nice car but I knew if I fricked it up I would lose it. I've never been in a wreck, only had 1 speeding ticket and have taken good care of my cars since.

To each his own. I don't think there's anything wrong with giving a kid a beater, but I also don't see a problem with giving a kid a nice car if you have the money.

Funny you should post that - I just texted my husband and said let's just buy it for me and let my daughter have my car.

I wouldn't normally go seek out a car like this for anyone in my family; but my neighbor's son offered to sell it to us so.
This isn't about a status symbol for me. It's a big, safe, clean car in the price range we are shopping in.
Posted here to see if anyone had experience w one this old.
It's a fabulous car. And I have never used the word fabulous to describe a car. I've never been a car person; but dang this car is fine.

I mean, so what it's 5 YO. That's a great deal on a solid auto. Horribly oversized for Lil' Susie and her Merry Band O' Texters at 16, though. But at the same time, it's safe (but not a guarantee).

Okay, that's good. Let me give my 2nd hand experience with MB. My parents owned, until recently, every version of the E Class for the past 35 years. They are nice cars, but I used to LMAO when my father would rant about the service and repair costs...he would call it his anal adjustments.

I bought my 16 year old a real nice used Audi A6 Quattro not because I want to show off or spoil her. But because it can take a hit and has. She pulled out in front of someone and got t-boned on the driver door by a truck doing 50. Due to the big I-beams in the door she didn't get the slightest scratch. Had the car fixed and still going. I feel she is safe in that car. It's either that or a 1 ton. I do most mechanical work myself which isn't very often at all. IMO, you should buy the car bc you can't put a price on peace of mind.

I honestly don't think so. The squid can go 10K on an oil change. Other than that she gets the belt for being stupid.

I take it you've never owned a Mercedes? The S550 is a 4 door sedan that does have a back seat.

ot of mechanical and electrical things that would cost lots of money to fix. I wouldn't be buying that for my daughter. I'd go Lexus if you want her in a nice luxury type vehicle.
