It may be time for a new roof, many of my neighbors have been getting new roofs with little or nothing down.

The company that did the house next door says he does not want to deal with Allstate because they are so inflexible who is what I have.

Am I screwed by having Allstate ?

Are you needing a new roof due to hail damage that will be filed with your insurance?

Otherwise, your insurance has nothing to do with it

Sounds like you don't really have much damage and the roofer doesn't want to waste his time or doesn't know what he is doing. Get a second opinion from another roofer.

Sounds to me like Allstate is doing their part to prevent insurance fraud...insurance should only pay for damage and not normal deterioration. That said....pray for a hail storm"

Have you lost shingles? I had an older roof that insurance replaced because I lost shingles in multiple areas during a bad storm in April. Adjuster told me lost shingles is easier to justify replacement than hail damage on older roofs.

Well hell, wait for a storm, get a ladder and lose some shingles. Bam, new roof.

I can tell you that Allstate will not replace an entire roof due to wind damage, especially a hip roof. Damage happens at a point in time, you can no accumulate damage and then get it repaired all at once. Just like you can't take a car to the repair shop with dings all over it from years of wear, pay one deductible and get the entire thing fixed.

Even if you have damage on all slopes, it would not have happened at the same event (storm) so they will not replaced the entire roof due to wind. IF there has been hail in the neighborhood (sounds like it if the neighbors are getting roofs replaced) then they is a good chance of replacement under hail. You want a knowledgeable roofer to look at the roof, and let you know if you have hail damage and if he feels this is the case, then have him present at the inspection.

Detecting small hail damage is an art and takes skill and experience...

I have Liberty Mutual and we're getting ours replace this week pending weather. Had a tree fall and damaged a small corner of the house. They reviewed the whole roof while looking at tree damage. Determined we have enough hail damage for a 17 yr old roof to warrant a full replacement. I've heard that a lot depends on the adjuster. Didn't even know we had hail damage and pretty excited to get a whole new roof out of the deal.

Good adjusters are smart and trained in detecting bullshite like this FYI.

A human can never replicate what a storm will do and the differences can be spotted by a trained eye.

and if you file a hail damage claim with your carrier, you'd better be sure you have the damage .. if you get turned down, it goes on your claims record with the carrier, even though they never paid a claim -- no matter how many years you have been with them, without one claim ..

Wait for the next hurricane if you want to claim it on insurance

Your neighbors probably aren't getting as good of a deal as you think they are or saying they are. People tend to stretch the truth quite a bit.

Stick a golfball in a sock. Get on the roof. Sling the golfball into the roof about 25-30 times all around the roof

Yea no way adjusters will not notice the pattern or the fact that all the hail seems to be the same size.

Ask an adjuster who has seen this already and they will tell you that there's always a pattern that gives it away. Like the fact that people who do the sock and golf ball trick only do the bottom of the roof because the top was too steep for the homeowner to climb on so they only did what they could reach from the ladder.

Also, on a car people have done this and you can see the gold ball dimples and sock lines in the paint.

Just saying that these companies have seen it all and it's your choice if you want to get in trouble for fraud.

Best case is you end up with a roof with a bunch of shingles with golf ball damage that insurance won't replace. Worst case is your get prosecuted for insurance fraud...

Do they ever press charges? Drop your coverage? Just deny claim?

I've never done anything like that unless it was recommended by my agent

I was informed by neighbors after we bought our house that the whole neighborhood had been built with faulty atlas shingles. I waited until after we had a storm in April and made a claim. There was damage on all sides( nothing major) and insurance is replacing the entire roof.

Pretty simple, if your roof is damaged then insurance will pay. If it's just normal deterioration then they won't.

Yep, if there are questions about the damage, they'll send out an engineer to investigate.
