This maybe times 1,000,000.

The V-22 Osprey had 12 hull loss accidents that resulted in a total of 42 fatalities. During testing from 1991 to 2006 there were four crashes resulting in 30 fatalities.[1] Since becoming operational in 2007, the V-22 has had seven crashes including two combat-zone crashes,[2][3] and several other accidents and incidents that resulted in twelve fatalities.[4]

Per wiki...How does this compare to other military aircraft?

My buddy survived a Sea Hawk crash in the Persian Gulf. The story he tells of that crash makes you wonder how he is still alive.

My Dad survived a hard landing in an Army UH-1 back in the 70's. Master Alarm came on and the young pilot freaked the F out. He put the bird on the deck hard and fast breaking my Dad's arms and injuring the copilot. Turned out to be a false indicator, the bird was completely fine...Pilot was expeditiously transferred and never flew again.

There's only been 5 Osprey crashes since it became operational in 2007, that's not bad.

But there were a rash of crashes in the early 2000s as it was about to enter service. There were accusations that the program had gotten "too big to fail" and Marines were paying for it with their lives.

The Osprey isn't the first with growing g pains and won't be the last. The B-29 had a shitload of early problems and deaths. I believe Boeing's top test pilot was killed in an early B-29 teat flight. Of course, it didn't take 15 years to unfrick the Super Fortress. ..

The crazy thing is though that the "rash" of crashes was 2: April and December of 2000. There was 1 crash in 1991, 1 in 1992, and 2 in 2000. I remember the media acting like they were deathtraps that couldn't fly without crashing. Of the ones that have happened since it went operational 2 were pilot error. It seems like they are pretty good vehicles overall.

Wow, just saw 2 Ospreys fly over the office heading towards New Orleans area (i'm assuming they are heading to Belle Chasse). Those bastards were extremely loud. I get what the other posters said about hating these things because they are so loud they have to drop you off many miles form the drop zone.

Just saw them too. From a distance their profile almost looks like an old F-4F Wildcat
