"Orange Slices" question

I hear this term all the time on TV and movies and they all talk about having "Orange Slices" after a little league games or mom bringing orange slices to the kids.
Guess I'm just a fricking hillbilly bumpkin, but the only orange slices I know of are these:
Sorry, but we just ate snow cones after the ball game. I never saw anybody's mom standing outside with a cut-up orange.
This has to be a yankee thing, right?

And you wonder why people down here are so fat.
Eta: yes we ate real fruit when we were kids. Shocking.

So is it a southern thing to eat sugary candy after a little league game?
What's wrong with giving kids oranges?
It's cheaper and more beneficial than concession stand candy.
If you feel like your kid deserves a treat, then by all means get junior some sweets.

Why can’t they both be orange slices?

I'm siding with OP here. I dont know what good a single orange slice would do. Maybe a whole orange.
BTW Mack Brown was an early adopter of this at UT. You see how it turned out for him.

We used to have orange slices at halftime, and Little Hugs when the game ended.

Sorry, folks... Soccer moms didn't exist where I'm from... We didn't play homosexual sports....
There wasn't some disphit woman standing around with a tray of fricking fruit at the local boys club. I also never said we had Orange slice candy after the games...

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but that wasn’t fruit you were eating down in Houma.

This was always so retarded to me. Snack time at halftime is what's wrong with soccer.

Have you ever pealed an orange and eaten it? The pieces of an orange (or grapefruit, lemon, lime, or other citrus fruit) are segmented into different slices that make the whole circle that is the orange. This is a ridiculously weird and basic thing not to know. Do you just sit around eating nothing but chicken tenders and mac and cheese and just have never eat food that wasn't processed to hell?
