Optometrist question-how to know where to go

My vision seems to be regressing, I have an HSA, so the cost of the visit matters. I know things like X rays and MRIs can vary pretty significantly from hospital to hospital.
As someone who has never had to do this in the past, are there any tips to get my eyes checked for the least amount possible? Probably a dumb question, but I really am ignorant to this since it's never been something I had to think about.

First, an optometrist is not an MD. You can find optometrists at Wal-Mart.

Yea I realize that I just can't seem to find any prices online. If wal mart is relatively the same price for an eye exam as a local optometrist I'd prefer skip wal mart.

Walmart exams are like $80. Just went to get a new prescription in order to get my glasses online

Exams themselves aren't very expensive. What comes later, glasses or contacts, can be pricey.

I suspect the Wal-Mart and Lens Crafters O.D.s will be cheaper than the ones in private practice.

I get mine done at the Target at Millerville. Mary Vaughan is awesome.

this is exactly what I have
I anticipated getting my eyes examed much earlier in the year when I enrolled

I found this to be true when I moved back to BR. After calling around to a few different places I settled on having my exam completed by a optometrist at Sam's. It was easily a $100 difference compared to several independent groups I called.

Not sure your location but Surgical Eye Associates in Covington is good. I'd recommend Dr. Bessent.

there are frequently MDs that work at Target during their residency to make extra money.
