We have a house there- weekenders like the rednecks call it.

I've worked in 34 different countries and all over the US- BSL is one of my favorite places on earth.

Old town is as close to Key West as it gets.

I hear they get a 2/5 NL game on Friday nights at the Hollywood Casino in Bay ST. Louis. Can anyone confirm this?

Know the place well. It's nice and laid back. People don't move as fast there. Slower. Wife calls it "Mississippi Time".

Cool little restaurants and bars.

Need a pair of sperry top siders, a belt with a boat/sailboat emblem on it, and a Columbia shirt or you won't fit in.

I was born in BSL, and grew up there entirely. I've spent lots of time in Key West. I've never drawn this parallel in my head once. Maybe now that Thomas has TBT and they opened the other new bars on the railroad side, I could see if you said sitting on the deck of one of those places is similar to key west.

I think everyone would want to own a beachfront home in old town (or north of 90 to the yacht club), but outside of that I'd rather be in old town than have a home up the river or down in waveland on the water. If I can't take the golf cart from my house I don't want to go.

What most people don't know about is that Stennis employs a huge number of oceanographers. Most of them travel the world and are young...They're a good mix of folk and are way damn smarter than your average Mississippian. Without them BSL would be a much different place for me.

Spent my formative years there in the 90's.

It was cool back then. I know it has changed a lot. But it's still a neat place.

I miss the old Mary's Eatery on Beach Blvd. I'd get a BLT after school for $3.95 that'd fill me up until dinner.

I moved here in 2004 and it's a 100% different place now, for obvious reasons. I don't think Mary's was still in business when I got here.

I didn't mean to make any implications on their smarts. Just that theres NY at the top for busy people, then theres NOLA, then way at the bottom is the Coast lifestyle, which is good and why we have a home there.

Get away.

Oh I hear you...it's a weekend pace all of the time. I work from home so I'm always out and about during the day, you can't even tell there's a work-week going on. Love it.

Not best place to be during hurricanes.
Know some retirees that lost everything during that storm and the house was high up, just got washed away on the bay.

What do the oceanographers do for Stennis?

It's actually the highest point anywhere on the gulf coast. My house is 25 ft above sea level, of course we still had 3+ ft of water in our house for that one, and there are plenty of place in town higher.

They work for NavO. They ride around on Navy assets in far off places mapping the ocean floor, putting out tide gauges, dropping who knows what sensor package in the water for who knows who...until the boat is needed by 'the men in black', or their 70 or so days are up. They also go other places less strategic to do the same things.

The private ones are alright, I'll send my boy to Stanislaus...girls go to OLG. The kids are mixed up until 6th grade in Holy Trinity...it's OK. I'm a product of private Catholic schools myself, so I know the level of teachers my son's likely dealing with. The schools are better across the bridge in the Pass, but that's all that's better over there.

ETA: Finding a good house in BSL is going to be difficult, good luck with that.

OK, they have better public tennis courts in the Pass...that better?

Y'all ever go to shows at the BSL Little Theatre?
