We have another Ellender Grad in here?

That happened the year after I graduated. I worked with the ladies husband that was raped on Savanne Road, I also know one of the ladies who was in the bank and her husband. All good people and very unfortunate and sick what that bastard did. He should be beaten with a small chain till his skin falls off.

Yet most on this website think we don't need more oversight regarding background checks. Pathetic. The military even fricks up. Surely this will help us come together on this issue.

do you honestly think that would have prevented him from obtaining a firearm?

legally, of course. What criminals do illegally is up to them. Those laws are in place.

Seems like this day and age there would be a way to auto feed data like this that was entered into the USAF's database to the FBIs.

There is, and it's dumb they aren't doing it, considering the consequences.

No. What we need is for everyone responsible with information that could prevent a person from buying a gun to submit that information.

If that information had been made available by the Air Force, the background check would have caught it.

No amount of additional oversight could have prevented this.

Until someone with a criminal history obtains a gun from a private individual and goes on a rampage like this, I do not suspect any additional oversight will come.

Hate to derail but WTF:
quote:

For a time, Louviere was held in prison in Lafayette, and there, on Feb. 17, 1998, he took one last, desperate chance to relive his experiences from 16 months earlier. With a toothbrush sharpened into a prison knife known as a shank, Louviere tricked and then overpowered a female jailer. In a control room, he held her hostage, gouging her neck with the shank, until prison officials brought him a female inmate he had befriended by speaking through the prison plumbing. The prison officials gave the woman the choice whether to enter the room with Louviere. She agreed, so Louviere released the jailer and began having sex with the inmate, then surrendered again.

Charged, sentenced, served yet no record found by federal background search? There's your issue.

Yeah, a lot of craziness for a small city in the 90s. Tried to just stick to my own business playing baseball and chasing girls.

Technically didn’t graduate from Ellender. Left to go to LSMSA for my last two years. We probably share some mutual friends through older siblings. I was a freshman the year you graduated.

we do. Who knows how many other offenders the Air Force, or any other branch, have forgotten to submit information on.

Is there some sort of auditing process on these things, or do you even know?

I didn’t see where it said he got a dishonorable discharge. I saw where it said a bad conduct discharge. You can fail a drug test and get a bad conduct discharge, and still legally buy a gun.

I mean I guess it is possible one gets filed for publicity purposes but that will be about it as any competant lawyer already knows the end result and why it is futile to even attempt.
