I present to you Exhibit A why Louisiana is virtually dead last in everything.

A lot to like about DC, but if reasonably affordable housing is a goal, it's a hard sell

I'm pretty sure that was a brand of sarcasm.

Nashville is adding a direct flight to Heathrow. That seems random, but clearly there was a reason that was feasible.

Ya, it's called the Boeing 787.

Would not shock me if it get placed in Kentucky.

Well Northern Kentucky the poster was referring to is the Cincinnati Metro. It may not be among the most likely destinations, but any metro with multiple Fortune 500 companies, millions of residents, a medium to large airport, and close to a number of universities, doesn't seem like a laughable option. A place like Jackson Mississippi would be a laughable option.

D/FW is likely to be the winner. Centrally located, great airports, and good public transportation that is getting better.

I don't think being centrally located is necessarily a good thing.

As some posters have pointed out, the ability to get anywhere in Europe and Asia has a lot of value. From Seattle, Asia is as accessible as possible, which is why I think some city on the east coast makes a lot of sense.

Well obviously airplane flight distance is important, but it doesn't matter if a plane can travel across the universe. The need for the travel is essential, which is what I referred to as seemingly random without knowing that the demand was.

What about Detroit? That fits every tick you listed.

Plus they could probably buy plenty of cheap land right in the city.

The plane is the piece that changed. That plane was specifically designed to make these "lower rung" airports profitable. However, that doesn't mean the airport/city itself can sustain multiple types of these kind of routes, which Amazon would probably require.

What I am getting at is, it isn't that Nashville necessarily "rose" in prominence (at least to the level of HQing Amazon), it is that technology in airplane design has come down to make it accessible.

As much I think NC could make a lot of sense, it checks a ton of boxes:

-major airport
-strong universities
-proximity to a major port
-growing younger workforce
-low cost of doing business

I just don't think metros like Charlotte or the triangle are big enough. If it's the south, it's Dallas or Atlanta.
