I agree adding more rail isn't the solution for everywhere, rail should just be a part of the transit system. Bus-rapid transit (BRT) connected to neighborhoods and park n ride facilities will be a critical component, especially for a suburban development.

I don't think they mean you need to have the NYC subway system.
They just mean their specific property needs to have some stops on it be it light rail or whatever.

I think Austin is out based on our lack of transit.
Hiring young talent is about picking a city or location that is can help with recruiting. Young people typically want to go somewhere "cool". That will be a big part of it.

I 100% agree, simply, the want a city with a transit system that efficiently connects population centers to job centers and to their new site.
This isn't a perfect example since its about NOLA, a place that has no shot, but these are type of metrics they will probably look for. Where they locate will have better transit metrics that this!
quote:
Regional transit connections continue to be poor. Only 13.9 percent of the regional workforce can reach the CBD – the most accessible major jobs center in the region – in 30 minutes or less via transit. Trips that would take under 30 minutes in a car take significantly longer via transit. For instance, a one-way transit trip from the West Bank to Ochsner Medical Center on Jefferson Highway – where the number of jobs are expected to double in the next few years – takes an hour and 45 minutes via transit.

Keep in mind that Amazon's culture isn't comparable with most large companies. We should all be so lucky to work for companies like google. They care about new hires and also poaching from other companies. They care about work-life balance.
Amazon is completely different. They want employees that arent programmed by other companies. They go after young people that can survive Amazons cut-throat environment. No work-life balance. Just work. 2 weeks vacation max a year.

Everything West of Airways that isn't already zoned residential is owned by FedEx... But the land that is South of Shelby Drive is intriguing... MIA owns that one piece but the land immediately East of that is currently for sale.... I-55 is a 3 minute drive West from there .... I-22 is a 10 minute drive East... Memphis is America's distribution capital... FedEx is a big reason for that but another reason is because Memphis is pretty much the midpoint between ATL and CHI.

Help me understand why Amazon would base its corporate HQ on where a good distribution center would be.
HQ doesn't do the actual distribution. Hell Amazon didn't even put its main datacenter by HQ.
Is suburban Memphis a magnet for top tier college grads? If not then they'll pass.

If Amazon is smart, and I believe they are, they will choose Dallas.
