Everything I've READ, says he was outside the car.
The two tales of events are that he either had a book or a gun... with the dash-cam video purportedly showing it was clearly a gun, and the "eye-witnesses" saying book.
The video hasn't been released because apparently it cant be under current state law. The newly adopted state law doesn't go into effect until October 1. I suspect we will see something around that time, and it will be followed by claims of video manipulation.

I personally have never really made a call in this case. I just think it's funny how an issue that has been around since the founding of the country is somehow Obama's fault. In fact, most people in the black community seem to feel betrayed by how little he appears to have done for their cause.
There's been racial tension in the United States since before the United States existed. Actually, there has been racial tension throughout the history of the entire world.

I haven't really followed this and don't know whether he was (1) brandishing (as opposed to having it holstered or something like that (2) ignored instruction regarding his hands, the gun, etc (3) acted in a threatening manner. All of this should matter.
Agree with all of this as well. Curious as to what the video would show.

In may of this year, Cameron Robinson and Hootie Jones were arrested in the wee hours of the morning in Louisiana.
Hootie had a gun in his lap, and there was a second gun found under the driver's seat.
In addition there was a small amount of grass found in the vehicle.
Both of these guys lived to tell their story.
It was dark, a gun in the lap of one of the suspects and another weapon under the seat.
The police tactics in this situation were properly followed.
N.C. is an open carry state. Just because he had a gun does not mean that officers had the right to tell him to drop it. He wasn't even the person they were looking for at the time.
Surely you folks can see that in some instances that some police are are a bit trigger happy, no matter the color of the victim or of the officer.

You seem to be the one making racial divide.. and assuming things that aren't even true..
I'd say 99.9% don't want anyone murdered, and I believe that.
I said some over the top, ridiculous stuff in response to the notion that suddenly racial tension is some new thing under Obama's crumbling nation. I don't even like Obama, but the idea that everything is suddenly escalating is ignoring the past.
This has gone on for centuries. I'm not one of those guys who immediately assumes every guy in these cases were martyrs. If you bring draw a gun in response to someone else with a gun, expect the worst.
I don't think it's ridiculous that there's a racial divide, though. Not saying cops are going around murdering people for fun, but I feel like every person who is killed shouldn't immediately get the comment "I'm sure he was just a good boy starting college and never hurt anyone," either.
