A teacher acquaintance from another town (barely know her, so I took it with a grain of salt) recently told me that she took a group of kids on a field trip and they all were staring in awe out of the bus windows seeing things for the first time because in their own cars they’re always staring at a screen.

Sounded kind of farfetched to me, but if true that’s just sad

Hah yeah I was like could that really be true

But sometimes I do see parents pull up at school and their kids are in fact watching a show. It surprises me that the ride to school would require a show for entertainment?

Other than the snowboarding / skiing (they can do whatever they want and I’m too poor to have ever done either one)
I am 100% with you

Kids with screens is also very kid dependent.

My oldest has always been able to handle screens. She just doesn't seem to have that addictive personality. Anytime we have ever asked her to put up or turn off a screen, she has never fought us. It doesn't affect her mood.

My youngest, however, has a personality where we have to watch her screen time, as she becomes very aggressive with too much time. So she doesn't get any screen time by herself. We have movie nights and whatnot, but she can only get like 15-20 minutes, even if its a show like Bluey.

Again. Parenting is hard

I am in my mid 20s and very glad I have a connection to the old world (old music, books, movies, etc) that I got from my parents and grandparents. The new world is fake and gay as frick. I want absolutely no part of it.

not to mention how much it sets them back socially etc

Idgaf… in fact I’d be happy. Most kids could use a lot less socialization. And not all socialization is equal.

this is the main thing I am trying to avoid at the moment

tablet is exclusively for Airplanes or drives over a couple hours. I know it is going to creep more and more in

drives me nuts when kids are glued to screens at restaurants

man dont judge to harshly on this. sometimes the parents need a break to just talk to each other too.

i see it more with kids a few years older than mine more so than my kid's friends.

I am happy I didn't have toddler early during covid because i don't know how i would have kept them occupied

how fricking stupid are you? kids need less

one of the biggest problems today is kids dont socialize as groups nearly as much as they used to

good luck with your weird depressed kids. Im sure they will fit in really well with all the weirdo fricks at A&M.

because of smartphones - so maybe he has a point

My kids did not need smart phones until college - my 15 year old has one bc we don’t have a landline anymore and he’s home with younger siblings and my mom in the afternoons

exactly....so many on here with young kids or no kids thinking its one size fits all and they are going to have all these hard lines that they will not bend no matter what.

yea i was like that too at 1 point....the world is evolving and you as the parent better evaluate and be flexible our your kids are going to be weird AF and be completely left behind

i can see now...couple of these parents are going to have FURY kids because its the only place their kid will fit in.

that is not really what i am talking about.

There is a difference between battling a kid when trying to relax at a restaurant and the kid coming to the restaurant with the expectation that they are going to be on switch or watch something.

if food is taking forever or the check is taking long, I get it.
