I always kept my work week to around 30 hours to spend more time with the family, but you're right - retiring in my early 40s certainly didn't hurt.

I can honestly say I haven't seen a world champ in a Honda Accord.

I have, however, seen my girlfriend in a GTO in that awful blue color. So congrats on getting him one step closer to getting a bid from a sorority.

I figured it would be much safer - you don't want a 15 yr. old in something slow so he ends up getting hit pulling into traffic. You want to be able to respond to oncoming threats with ample acceleration.

..or just hope he uses wisdom and good judgement, no matter what he drives?

As someone over trauma services, good luck with that rationale.

You figured wrong. First thing that's going to happen is he's going to pull up to a red light next to another dumb teenage boy in another muscle car, one of them will rev up their engine, and as soon as the light turn green, the race is on.

Really? That's a funny justification. I got a gt when I was a senior and it only had something like 260 hp. Looking back it was still a lot. You can merge safely with a Honda Accord.

Fwiw, the new 5.0s are a lot of car for anyone, let alone a 15 year old who has never driven a car

I'm sure he'll score more points than just about anyone in a bar fight.

Nevermind guys, this is an obvious troll. Either that, or the 911 decided in the 70s, that snorting paint chips was cooler than blow.

I'll never forget my dad spending $200 on a 15 year old truck with 200,000 miles on it for my 15th birthday. I was pissed that I didn't get anything nicer, but after goofing off with friends and running it into a ditch within a month of getting it, I saw the wisdom that "old man" possessed. Crazy thing is that truck got handed down to my sister and brother too. Inb4poors

My first car was a brown 1979 toyaota corona station wagon. Handed down from my brother, who got it from a friend for 200 bucks.

I hated that car.

Looking back , i would not trade getting that car for anything in the world. Great memories in that thing

I also make sure our toddler has a box-cutter with her while she sleeps so she can cut her way out of tangled sheets and not get strangled.

I was waiting for a post like this. Most likely, his son will be 40 years old, wearing a helmet, and calling himself Corky.

just make sure he doesn't find where the traction control button is. As a matter of fact, you may want to disable that button.

The words "wisdom" and "good judgement" are not two descriptive phrases you will see associated with 15-16 year old boys.... Especially when you throw them the keys to a Mustang GT.

Posts of gratitude? What do you mean, you're praising your son for his accomplishments? That's great and I'm glad to see a supportive parent behind a dedicated child.

However, this thread was about one thing only. Bragging.

If it werent, it would be titled about your son winning his TKD tourney and the content of the OP would reflect that. It doesn't, just shows you bought a kid, who doesn't have a license, a brand new car that is way overpowered for a 15 year old.

ETA, Also I'm super jealous because I had an old ragged out Ford Ranger for my first car.

Congrats to your son for his accomplishments.

I don't know if your son is a douche or not, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume he's a great kid who works hard and does well, and for this you are understandably proud.

One of the greatest values/gifts you can ever instill in your kid is a sense of gratitude and humility.

This is one of the reasons I don't think any teenager should be given any kind of "status" car from their parents.

Just my humble opinion.

I thought about doing this myself but decided to go with a butterfly knife instead. That way not only could he free himself from a tangled sheet, he also had the added benefit of instant street cred with all the other kids at preschool.
