I'm moving soon, rather pay a dude from work $100 and rent a truck than pay $500+tip to movers. I like money.

People who willingly continue to help friends move well into adulthood are amazing people. People who expect their friends to help them move well into adulthood are not.

Had a neighbor catch me pulling in from work one day and asked as I was getting out of car if I could come by and help him move something, will only take a second...sure, I said...it was a 4 piece pool table slate, that needed to go to an upstairs game room...never been so pissed

The worst part is showing up at someone's place and they still have shite in the drawers not packed and have to take 20-30 minutes between loading furniture.

Add to that, people who ask your help moving and who then spend most of the time unboxing and setting their shite up inside while you unload the truck.

I can think of few things I hate more than moving.

people are getting ruder and ruder about that, I always get calls for help because I used to do some contracting and have a shite load of tools and equipment, used to be that whenever I'd go help someone they'd go out of the way to try and make sure everything was ready for work before I got there, always tried to feed me and have beer on ice, etc., a few years back we had some neighbors move in(down in FL on the water,) they'd bought a fixer upper, the guy worked with me but I hadn't met him yet, he wasn't there so I assumed he was at work, so being a good neighbor I go over and pitch in, we were taking a break and I asked his wife "when does John get back in town?" she said "oh he's not at work he's playing golf" I found a reason to excuse myself shortly after that

We hired a crew from a local sober living facility to move our office. Worked fast and dirt cheap.

I’ll ask family to help, and my neighbors, but we always help each other out. Other than that, I may ask to borrow a truck if I need to go get something, but I wouldn’t ask anyone to help me move.

I think you get the ‘buddies helping me move for beer’ maybe once after college, and that is close to college age besides.

Completely agree. I guess unless it’s family. And even still, it’s well worth hiring if you value your time. Some people don’t grasp that concept though. Or they’re poor, so their time isn’t really that valuable.

Well said.

I'll always help someone I care about who is truly in need. But asking someone to do something as inconvenient as devoting their day off to moving your family into a new house is s bit much.

There's a difference between that vs. some in this thread referencing helping their bro move from his bachelor pad to another bachelor pad.

My brother runs a moving business on the side from his regular job and he's paid pretty handsomely for it. I'd be a huge dick if I expected him to help move us out of our house for free.
