I have bought vehicles in Breaux Bridge, Beaumont, Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Alexandria. Each time I bought one, I gave the local dealer the opportunity to match or beat the price I was getting online and out of town. Only once did they do that and that was the last truck I bought in 2014.

Buying a new car in Houston in about 3 months.
Good deals going on now with 18's in stock.
Most Louisiana people come to Houston for basically everything.

You go to a high volume dealer and they gave you $1600 off of a Honda? And you don't negotiate? Are you really proud of that? You could have easily gotten 3-5k off of a Honda in Slidell for Gods sake.
This is simply not true. They don't give $1,600 off of a Honda, they give $1,600 off the best price I could find in SE LA. NO DEALER in in SE LA would budge off their best price even after I told them the deal I was getting in Houston. They just don't seem to care. They WILL let you walk. Your time is better spent dealing with Houston dealers. I actually saved $1,800(not $1,600) on this vehicle by buying in Houston.
I recommend new car buyers check out Houston dealers to save money based on my experience (twice now).

My biggest concern would be getting over there and the dealership pulls a fast one because they know you are a captive buyer.
What do you do pre-travel to seal the deal?
And are you buying sight unseen?

Last time this topic got brought up I agreed, and the dude who sells cars in LA on this website came in and said I was wrong... That was a good laugh.

First time in '06 the dealer and I finalized over the phone on the price and I gave him a credit card number to pay for some accessories I wanted. He picked me up at the airport the next day and everything was ready when I arrived at John Eagle. I wrote them a check and was driving home within 2 hrs.
This time (6/23/17) I gave the dealer (Honda cars of Katy) a $250 deposit via a low limit credit card (did this over the phone, first time we had talked)the day before so he could mark the car sold and add the accessories I wanted. Arrived at 11:30 am the next day and was driving home in 2 hrs. Everything was handled over the internet and was initiated by me visiting their web site. Did this for 8 dealers (3 in TX, 4 in LA, and one in Dauphin AL. It became obvious pretty quick who really wanted to sell me a vehicle.
To summarize, I've bought 2 new vehicles in TX and all agreements made beforehand have been honored. These people want to move cars and don't seem interested in the hassle involved lying or cheating you. Others in this thread have bought out of state for the same reason and may have a clever way to insure agreed on costs are honored. I haven't felt the need (I'm 2 for 2).
Yep, Twice now. This time the dealer sent me the pictures of the vehicle, VIN, specs, etc etc so I knew what I was getting. Didn't test drive until I got there and then just took a spin around their lot (which is HUGE). You could test drive at a local dealer if that's important to you.

No one said a word about a note or a loan from a finance company. If he wrote a check out of account you have to factor in what it cost to put that money back into his account.
You said 60 month note. Read your own post?

I bought a few trucks and wives Range Rover (biggest overpriced tank) in Houston.
I found a pre owned low miles Chevy Colorado 4x4 loaded when I was driving around talking business with a customer who buys corvettes. We stopped to look at a pre owned corvette and I saw nice Chevy Colorado that caught my eye.
You buy your wife a Range Rover and you drive a Colorado???
