The Spanish Flu killed my great-great grandfather. He was only in his 20s. My great-grandfather was only a baby when he died. If he would have gotten the flu a year sooner, I may not exist.

And we would have been deprived of Johnny Roastbeef’s posts here. That would have been the real tragedy.

I did. Go to newspapers.com and subscribe. You can also search keywords to bring up every mention of a certain term.

Unlike Spanish Flu, this thing can not only mutate but can attack multiple parts of the body (heart, brain, organs) instead of just the lungs.

Obviously. It has caused many people to lose their minds.

I however refuse to play Covid anymore. It was a stupid game to start with and the prizes sucked. A donut for a shot? Come on, that was weak.

What poster here grew up in a pre Spanish Flu world? They have to be at least 110 years old. I will buy that old codger a drink, they have earned it.

Fun fact - bacteria in the masks killed more than the Spanish flu did

I don’t believe this picture. It’s either photoshopped or a recent staging. The Spanish Flu is nothing new, yet until Covid I never heard of masking back then or anything similar to what they pushed on us. This is something to normalize mandates and say “See, this isn’t the first time. Get on board.”

This is scary.

Ok. So what are we supposed to do about it? You sound like you are trying to hold someone responsible fir doing something wrong. Who are you mad at?

The worst part of the Spanish Flu epidemic was that no lessons were learned for 2020.

Wilson administration, coupled with a Democrat-controlled Congress, had already passed draconian laws which jailed political dissidents and those who spoke out against the war.

I used to think Woodrow Wilson’s tyranny wouldn’t succeed in our modern society of instant communication and free flowing information.

The past few years have taught me he would fit right in today, and his approach would be as successful as it was over 100 years ago.

But I am not aware of Wilson mandating masks. He actually suppressed news reports on the severity and dangers of that flu strain. Americans personally witnessed the dangers of it, and took precautions themselves despite the Federal Government denying what they were seeing with their own eyes.

Maybe the leaders of Boston said F—- the Feds, and instituted laws on their own.

I just searched the Boston newspapers and it doesn’t mention anything like that. A paid advertisement that had miracle cures and mask claims did appear.

His great-great grandfather died very soon after his great grand father was born. If his great-great grandfather had died a year earlier, before his great grandfather was conceived, then Roastbeef would not exist today.

See, the doctor is the boy’s mother…. Some might get that last reference.

Spanish Flu legitimately killed 50 million people and was devastating for infants and toddlers. Far different animal.

It was for all children. For some reason.

In old cemeteries, it’s not uncommon to see 5,6,7 or so little headstones that all have the same last name and died during the years of the Spanish flu. Usually lined up right next to the parents graves.

The Spanish flu was terrible, to give Covid 19 anywhere near the same level on the pandemic scale, like some do, is ludicrous.

Me too - I was born in 1941 and my parents were born in 1919 - thus, all of us grew up in a "post Spanish Flu world". I'm not sure how you think that gives you and I any better insight into this subject than anyone else posting on this board.

I would think you guys could provide anecdotal evidence of what common folk did. No?
