While there are flaws, the 737 Max crashes wouldn't have happened on US carriers.

Wow OldSkuleAlum I hope you’re never the pilot of any plane I’m on because after two major hull loss incidence you still don’t seem to understand what caused the crashes.

For Lion Air those guys basically had no shot. Boeing hasn’t even revealed that MCAS was on the plane, much less provided and checklist or memory items for it.

Problem is, BOEING CHOOSES to sell to non-US carriers.

You don’t know that. The only thing you know is that this MCAS issue caused a complete hull loss 2 of the 3 times it occurred. It’s really not a bet I’d want to take.

Yes I read that article when it came out. Heavily slanted toward Boeing.

This one is a bit fairer IMO: LINK

Actually don’t take it from me, take it from Chelsey Sullenburger himself:

quote:

“I recently experienced all these warnings in a 737 MAX flight simulator during recreations of the accident flights. Even knowing what was going to happen, I could see how crews could have run out of time before they could have solved the problems. Prior to these accidents, I think it is unlikely that any US airline pilots were confronted with this scenario in simulator training," Sullenberger said.”

Ah the ole "if I don't like it, it's slanted!"

The article acknowledges Boeings issues.

Talk to an American pilot or captain and see what they say. You'll change your mind.

Would any of the major US carriers hired either of the Lion Air Pilots with their qualifications?

Lol, in other words he just said US crews would have all but likely not crashed....good take though.

Probably not. But Ethiopian maybe.

Regardless, there’s no excuse for two brand new airplanes flying themselves into the ground. That doesn’t happen to any other plane. Blaming the pilots is insane.

Oh. Then I don’t know what to tell you other than if it makes you feel better to think all your ExpressJet trips are in the hands of the next Tex Johnson then go ahead.

.

Why have pilots then? Lion Air essentially had unqualified pilots. Their job was essentially to prevent the plane from crashing if there was a software issue.

If all we needed was software to fly the plane, why have pilots at all?

Boeing has a major issue and I’m sure they will correct it. But the reality is that the pilots failed when they were needed.

Probably the captains.

Simple fact is that Boeing fricked that airplane up, didn’t give the proper training materials for their fricked up airplane, and skirted regulations getting it to market. None of that is debatable.

Are American pilots better than 3rd world pilots? Yes.

Would have American pilots been able to overcome the MCAS issue in flight? More than likely.

Is there evidence of a PR campaign by Airbus? Absolutely not.

OP is a paid shill and more than likely a lobbyist in DC. He doesn’t know dick about aviation as evidenced by nearly all of his posts. He claims to be an Army aviator, which if true should command him even less respect. Of all the military and civilian pilots I’ve flown with over the years, Army aviators are by far the least competent on average.

Two different brand new planes flew themselves into the ground and you think it’s the pilots

There's also no excuse for putting pilots in planes who can only fly with three axis autopilot.

But it happens all across the globe.

When planes clash it's almost always more than one issue.

Well, most. I don't think it's that small of a subset.

American pilots are trained to the absolute highest standard and a lot are former military pilots which puts them in a class of their own.

You mean like sitting in a pattern in order to log the necessary 1,500 hours to get their ATP? Some of that may be allocated to flight instructing teaching some doctor how to fly a glide scope in VMC. Not exactly exemplary training, but hey that Colgan plane crashed because the pilots (American) were tired and thought that during a stall you pull up. As a result we got the requirement that you need an ATP to get an airline job.

Hence the half assed training American pilots get.
