Old Football Cards

So I was cleaning out my attic and ran across a box full of old football cards I collected when I was a kid. Mostly 1979-1983 era. Anyone have any experience with collecting or selling these things? I'm not sure if any of them are worth anything but there are some big name players from back in the day in there. I guess I could try ebay but thought I'd ask. Thanks.

Depending on what you got, I’ll buy all of them

AntiqueTiger will call a friend who knows and then offer you $3.50...

I've got a buddy of mine who's an expert on old football cards...

If it's not graded it's just paper.

Depends on the condition, but I’m sure some are valuable. I recently sold a lot of old 80’s era cards for a lot of money I collected as a kid.
Your best bet is private party sales and not going to a ‘dealer’. I don’t know if they still have ‘card shows’ but those are good too.

Eric Hipple's rookie card is going for 53 cents on the open market. But it's only worth 30 cents if he autographed it.

I collected baseball cards, so I know diddly about football cards, but I'm holding out hope against hope that the ten 1981 Topps Joe Charboneau cards I have will pay off my mortgage one day.

Depends on condition. For 79-83, they won’t be worth anything unless they’re in pristine condition

What kind of shape were yours in? These aren't bad but they haven't been in any protective sleeves or anything like that.

We might could work something out. I'd like to get an idea what they are worth though.

Send me some pictures and I’ll let you know

Those older ones for football are probably not worth that much, that was the era of mass production of cards and they definitely won't be graded that high.
The cards that are fetching premiums these days are the rare one time cards being inserted into boxes and when you open the boxes and packs you may get a rare card with an autograph at premium grade that no one else can claim. That is what is driving the market these days.
Cards were on the verge of going extinct until the brands started changing the industry. Now it's back to searching for the rare cards being released.

I still have Art Monk and Emmitt Smith rookie cards laying around somewhere

I had some from early 1970 and I brought them with me to a card show. They were basically worthless.
Good luck

Bending all four corners and creasing the middle make cards ultra-valuable.

I got a Walter Peyton rookie card and always wondered what it was really worth. Don’t know what to believe online.

There's a guy in the upstairs section of Benton Bros Antiques in Denham Springs antique village that deals specifically with sports cards. Honest, mom and pop type business.

Depends on your audience and the availability of the card. For example, I had a Dan Marino ‘85 box bottom (red border vs black). They were so rare it didn’t really matter the shape. Also if the buyer is a true collector or just a bum dealer trying to flip it for a buck.
Same with the ‘89 Score set. Pretty rare overall.
Outside of that, the only value is in rookie cards. Topps was the only real manufacturer back then, so mass production for the most part. I’d sift through and find your valueable rookie cards from that era.

Could be $20, could be $200 depending on the condition
When people say ‘they have these old cards’, it really doesnt matter who orwhat they have. Its the condition they are in.
Most football cards from 1981 are worth about 5 cents. But if you have the Joe Montana rookie from that set in good condition, you have something valuable
