Leaving home at daylight on Saturday morning and not coming back home until after dark and no one worrying about me.
Hell, I’d grab a ride with my neighbor ski Winter Park all day, get back home around 7 or 8 and my dad would ask where I was. I’d tell him skiing and his response was usually “yeah, I thought so”.
Just being free as a kid was the greatest thing.

I miss the slower pace of life back then.

The Dilly Plate from Piccadilly, with the green Jello as dessert.

Don't know how long the battle will wage, but it will be very ugly and hotly contested. Ole Miss folks have given up/lost everything else. The name, "Ole Miss" is the last bit of "old south" heritage they feel they have left.

You guys reminded of a few things.
Hobby Hut in Baton Rouge, I built probably 150 models as a kid. (I was not an introvert you just had more time back then)
Thunderbird Beach on Lake Pontchartrain. My first kiss.
Summer camp, enough said.
Being part of a group of friends, (4-8) really good buddies you spent all your time with.
Being free to be stupid, I almost died several times, but had cool scars to show for it.
Like so many of you said, I had friends that were poor and were very wealthy nobody cared back then, we all hung out together as we were all bored adventurous mfers. We committed felonies and crap but never stole anything or hurt anyone, but if we saw a way in we were going to explore it.

Not being addicted to their phones. This is one of the worst things that has happened to kids and parents.
Everyone in their own little cell phone created bubble.

How easy it was to buy alcohol at the local C store. It was so easy the cashier used to sell me a pint of JD at age 14. All I had to do was tell him it was for my dad.

Human Interaction.
Growing up in a neighborhood in the 70’s, we knew every neighbor and knew inside of every house. We knew every kid, younger or older. Lots of interaction. .

We had Sega Genesis and Nintendo. Blockbuster and TGIF. Full House and Family Matters. Life was great and work and issues didn’t follow you home.
The glory days. We also didn’t start video gaming until night, that was if the basketball court lights didn’t come on.
