I would imagine production platforms are less likely to cause spills than drilling platforms.

Happy to hear no one was hurt. Jumping into the GOM at 2:30 in the morning in January has got to raise the pucker factor exponentially.

But if the alternative is death by fire, I guess you do what you gotta do. Glad a work boat was in the area to help those guys. Kudos to the captain/crew for the safe recovery.

Rest assured no matter how much or little the spill, it will be reported as a huge natural disaster and its impact will be misreported. The commercial fishermen and environmentalists need something to bitch and sue over, so this is just dandy.

No, not again. This is a production platform, not a drilling platform. You can quit being dramatic.

That used to be a Unocal location, was acquired by Renaissance, don't know who owns it now

Not necessarily, in some cases, on a drillling unit, you may be dealing with only one well/formation, on some production units, there may be several wells that are tied into one platform.

Great to hear that everyone is OK! I hope that it was an equipment malfunction of some sort and not a mistake by an operator. I know a ton of guys who work production and many of them who don't take their job seriously. Hope this turns out to me minor for everyone.
