Coach O is a Coonass. Don’t forget it.
When Saban got to Alabama he was in a little hot water over this exchange.

"He was walking down the street yesterday before the Sugar Bowl," Saban said on the taped comments. "He calls me. There was a guy working in the ditch, one of those coonass guys that talk funny. "I can't talk like them, but he can. Most people in Louisiana can."

Lol, that is a badge of honor for people around here
It is today, but I remember a time when it was "fighting words", coming from the wrong person. But when the Cajun cuisine became popular everyone really started to embrace the title. So much that I literally forgot that some people had once considered it a derogatory term. Then a few years back I was in Louisiana with an old land man who was wanting to secure a right of way on our property. We were at lunch and I told a story (don't remember about what) but I said something to the effect that "only a coonass" would do that. When I said that, he looked up at me and I could tell he was not happy. I made sure he remembered that I was born and raised in south Louisiana and was also a coonass. His hackles came down but it was a little tense for a second there....lol.

I've gotten this multiple times in Denver. One idiot flight attendant from Seattle decided to sit there and try to fricking lecture me on what a coonass was, and why it was disrespectful to black people. Was comical when she finally Googled it, and you're goddamn right I rubbed it in.

Can you read coon arse? He grew up in Houston and his parents live in Louisiana.
I was talking about the reaction of the dumbasses in Ohio, dumbass.

Clearly Andrew Pappas has no filter nor understanding of how insensitive, hurtful and racist his comments are," Mallory said. "His offensive comments are reprehensible and unacceptable. His judgment is lacking and shows his ignorance. he needs to apologize to the community and everyone should stand against his insensitivity, divisive and racist commentary and views."
Outraged liberals must copy and paste these sorts of statements by now.
Ok NAACP, here’s your attention. We know you haven’t been in the news lately and racism has gotten really hard to find. Times are tough.

Ignorance is one of those overused buzzwords that gets tossed into ever liberal word salad. It doesn’t even seem to have any meaning anymore.

They don't get to steal that word just because it has "coon" in it.
Another example of cultural appropriation.

When I first moved up to NYC I was at a party and said something like "yeah theres some real coonass people down in cajun country" and the party just about stopped and everyone stared at me like I had three eyeballs.
Some things are difficult to change.

I was at Yankee Tavern over the summer bullshitting with the manager. He said a group of guys on bikes came in one day and had “coonass” on their gear. He advised them to cover it up or whatever and they said it’s a term for Cajuns. He says “yeah try explaining that fast enough in south Bronx”

Who does he need to apologize to?
High yellows, octoroons, and red bones of southern Louisiana.

Rush immediately took him off the air but continued to talk to the guy to find out what he said and what it meant. Rush explained to the audience what it meant and put the guy back on the air to finish his call.
This took brains and common sense, none of which these other people posses.

He didn’t call them dumb asses !! Now that would have been spicy

Did anybody else read this in Jackie Chiles voice from Sienfeld?

A local brewery here had a beer / ale naming contest for a new "Mardi Gras" beer they were brewing. I entered Coon arse Ale. Needless to say I didn't win.
Racist bastards.

I have been called coonass quite a few times in my life. And I am as white as spilled milk.
