They told me that if I overstayed my visa I would be fined and after paying the fine, deported and not be allowed back in country for a specific number of years. They followed up with periodic phone calls to my residence ( like twice).

It was all very racist to be asked and required to observe the laws of another country. After decades of therapy I feel I can share this story of how the racistsexisthomophobic TrumpNazis of Japan so cruelly dealt with Your Humble Pimpness. And how only my incredible bravery and courage allowed me to survive this racist treatment. Please send me your thoughts and prayers retroactively

what's interesting, from a cultural perspective.....They still have one of the most stringent national policies for immigration, and even citizenship for a 1st world nation. Which is perfectly fine, its their prerogative.

But, they are losing population in that the young are not replenishing the elderly at a sustainable rate. The villages, towns, communities are starting to vacate as what few young people they have are migrating into the major metropolitan areas. It's actually part of the factor that goes into the proliferation of vending machines.

I’m just pointing out that people who have lived abroad are subjected to completely REASONABLE immigration standards that we would consider draconian and no one says a word. And yet we are told our far more liberal policies are the equivalent of Nazi Germany. I was stationed in Okinawa and left on a Navy boat. Ended up with some orders while out and had to fly back commercial 6 months later. Japanese customs didn’t want to let me back in the country even with my military orders. I was literally shaking.
