Who are they? Sorry for the ignorant question.

I was referring to the big service companies, BakerH, Halliburton, and Schlumberger.

I know some about the industry and safety. Be an ROV Tech. It seems pretty interesting and I imagine way safer than Roughneck or Roustabout.
Plus submarines are cool.

Also, watch your damn hands out there. Most of the injuries I've seen are finger related.

True. Most every quarter when we get out safety packets the most common injuries are hand related.

My worthless cousin got on with Transoceanic as a ballast control engineer....he'll he can't spell engineer or ballast. I guess he was banging the recruiter. Oh we'll, even a blind hog can find an acorn.

Alright guys, here's my story. 44 yrs. old, college degree in aviation, currently doing torque turn for a casing company (3 yrs). Money is decent, made $98k last year and worked less than half the year. The actual job is not too bad, but I don't see myself doing it for much longer.
The real problem is the schedule, 24 hr. call sucks. I can't stand it anymore and the wife absolutely hates it. Can't plan anything, and never know when you'll be home when you go offshore.
So, I'm looking for something with a schedule of either 7/7 or 14/14, preferably on land because I feel like a fricking prisoner when I'm offshore. I have a friend pretty high up with a mud company who was going to get me into a mud engineer class this month, but it was cancelled and pushed back till this summer.
Y'all have any other ideas besides mud engineer? Do most MWD jobs have a schedule? I turned down a job with Scientific Drilling about 7 years ago because they wanted me to go to Pennsylvania and work 3 weeks on, 1 week off. I was a newlywed, so I told them thanks, but no thanks.
Any other jobs you might suggest? I'm willing to take a pay cut for a schedule. I'd say minimum of $70k. Thanks.

Because work is slowing in the industry.

All the MWD companies I know have hiring freezes on.

None that I can think of unless you have some very good connections.
Try with some mudlogging companies.

Construction Management major here. I still have a year left before I graduate. If I want to, I can spend an extra year and get a geophysics degree to go with it. I was wondering if there are some jobs that would be a good option for me right out of college or for next summer. My only experience was interning under a project manager for an electrical subcontractor. Is there anything in the oil/gas industry worth applying for that will pay me more than entry level CM jobs will?

Yea, like Rstick has been saying, its slowing down and from the meeting we had the other week they are planning for it to keep slowing down. Its going to get real tough here soon I think. I know they have been laying off land men in droves in the last month or so the drilling is to follow next.

Why was this anchored? Title?
CM guys can find a job, it has a better shot than all the accountant and English majors trying to make the jump. Nothing that will keep you on land fyi.

I just don't even know what to apply for. I'd love to be able to work offshore of Louisiana and make over 100 grand per year. I imagine it'd be pretty much the perfect way to start right out of college. What I'd really like to do is be a company man. They really like guys with business and technical backgrounds, but I don't have the GPA to get an interview with Exxon.
